Whats the word on 9mm car? Im curious due to the fact i dont have alot of a budget but would like to have a long gun to go along with a pistol for home protection. 9mm becuase I already have a cw9 and sw99 fs and 9mm is cheap to shoot.

The Beretta CX4 Storm is a nice 9mm carbine. I picked up this used model, along with a few other goodies, for a very reasonable $450. With a cheap red dot scope this turned into one of my favorite range toys. Excellent quality and reliability in a totally ambidexterous carbine. A good choice IMHO.

It took me several months to find my 9mm Sub 2000. There were a few on gunbroker, but people were asking ridiculous prices for them.

I like that Sub-2000. I was looking for one that would take Beretta 92 mags and gave up.

FWIW - Hi-point also makes a 9 mm carbine. I've seen one but never fired one (yet). Heard that they are not bad.

If you get one of these carbines... pistol caliber... check out the test at Ballistics by the Inch to see what ammo to use... best performance for your particular length of barrel.

Thanks for the suggestions. I would prefer either the cx4 or sub 2000 if found. How the performance and accuracy with these?

The Kel-Tec Sub 2000 appears in the January CDNN 182 page flyer. $299. They sell out fast. I'd just get one ordered and you should get one sonner or later.

Not a huge amount, but it can be highly modified. Check this out http://www.thektog.org/forum/showthread.php?t=231168

The rails on mine are Magpul. I drilled holes in the handguard and mounted the rails with screws. The foregrip is also Magpul. The extended stock is from Kel Tec. The red dot is a cheap Primary Arms micro on a quick release mount. The sling is an eBay special.

Kel Tec and Red Lion make quad rails for the Sub 2000. The Red Lion version kind of rotates so that you can keep a red dot on it and still fold the Subbie.

I've been scouring the 'net and local stores for months looking for a Sub2000 in the Glock 17 variant. Can't find one anywhere except the $500 gunbroker extortionists.

The sad part is that just last Tuesday I noticed that a new gun store had been opened in another town near me. I stopped to ask about the Sub, and they told me they'd had one for weeks, but sold it yesterday! Here I am calling small gun shops in New Jersey based on internet rumors and there's been one sitting 10 miles from my house for weeks. I'd almost rather he hadn't told me. ;) Oh well, the search continues.

I think Melissa picked one up recently.
She seems fairly connected too.
I'd check with her for sources...

Don't count out the Hi Point, everyone I know who has actually shot one has been impressed.

LOL Barth! I knew a guy, who knew a guy... I just got lucky. It was right place, right time kind of thing.

@BrewerGeorge, you'll find one when you least expect it.

A 9mm pistol round is still a pistol round when shot through a carbine, however, that longer barrel does help improve performance. At defensive home ranges, I like it. I see you have gotten two great recommendations already.

If you are out in the boon docks with acres around you and no neighbors, home defensive might call for an AR 15 capable of shooting .223 or 5.56
.223 rounds make a small hole on the front and a huge cavity on the exit side. Over penetration would be the danger.

You can't beat the Sub2000 on price.

I've had the HiPoint 995ts for a couple of years now and considering the price it is one heck of a carbine. It has been perfect since I took it out of the box and it eats anything. I finally got a couple of MagPul extended magazines and it is just plain fun to shoot.

I also have a Sub 2000. It is also a fun carbine, however it also requires some aftermarket tweeking to make it usable. I'm not real big; 6' and 220, but it is very difficult to get a good sight picture, even with "low profile" muffs. I had to extend the stock, wrap the tube and develope a whole new stance to make it practical. Unlike the HiPoint, it seems that every practical upgrade for the 2000 is $100!

Hell if you want a real performer /home invasion stopper just get a carbine conversion unit and use the 1911 4" or 5' model lower assembly and slide stop pin and go to town.
I put a red dot on mine and covered the metal wire but stock with plastic side plate covers and hit tin cans making them dance, sometimes making three hits before they hit the ground. No one can question the stopping power of the old 45 ACP especially give the bump of the 16" barrel.
I can use standard Colt surplus mags from 6,8,15, and 20 round mags. An awsome dome defense weapon to be sure. I beleive I only gave about $250.00 dollars for it at a gun show.

Never considering buying a Glock in my life. Thanks! Appreciate it! The wife says hello too, NOT :-)

That's pretty slick. Have been considering a 9mm carbine and just didn't see one I liked, the Beretta was my 1st choice, but it's a bit too starship trooper looking for my taste. This is more my speed.

What I like about the Beretta is it can be setup entirely left handed, including the ejection port. Kind of expensive compared to the Sub 2000 and the HiPoint, though.

Another neat feature of the Beretta is that the charging handle can be switched to either side or both at the same time if you buy a second handle. Truely ambidexterous. I've only used the 9mm version, but I always thought that the .45acp would be a great gun, useful for many applications other than just fun.

I really like the HiPoint. They have a great warranty. I have shot them, but have a Ruger PC4 for my carbine. There is a 9mm version (PC9), but I would just go ahead and get the HiPoint if I didn't already have something I have already spent bonding time with.
