I was under the impression that any 9mm 124gr was a +p round. I saw a box (lawmen I think) that just said 124 grain on it? Does this mean its not a +p load, or did they just assume u would know 124= +p?

Sorry for the noob question!

I'm not sure I understand. You can purchase 124gr rounds in either +p or non +p.

Noop. If the ammo isn't marked as such there are probably standard pressure loads. In out shorter barrel Kahrs the difference betwween +P and standard is quite small. It is really ahrd to get the additional powder to burn effeciently is these short barrels, hense the added muzzle flash we get at times....thats just the powder burning outside of the barrels. This is alo why some companies were trying to produce the so called short barrel loads. They were trying to change the type of powders they used in their normal ammo to a fatser burning powder to minimuze the muzzle flash. That muzzle flash can give one tempoary night blindness in very low light situations....not a good thing when fighting in the dark when you need your night vision, thats why when we used to go out on night patrols in the Army we went outside our perimeter an allowed our eyes time to adjust to the reduced light in the evenning patrols.

Lowroad the answer is yes they make both standard pressure and +P. The +P loads have higher chamber pressure and normally produced a slight increase in muzzle velocity over standard loads of the same weight bullets. Most ammo in 9mm is tested in 4-5" barrells. The velocity loss in a 9mm 3" tube could be as much as 100-150 fps less than a 4" or 5". It is even more pronouced in 38 spl revolvers & the same load can vary from one gun to another of the same manufacturer and model of pistol. The velocity loss in a 2" snub nose 357 magnum compared to a 4" .357 mag pistol can be as much as 250 fps in a 125 grain bullet weight.

I know what a +p round is.

I've seen lots of 9mm in standard, +P and +P+ in various weights.
The weight of the bullet has nothing to do with the pressure.
If it is high pressure, or over pressure, it should be packaged and marked clearly as such.
