Like others my wife dislikes the white outline on the factory rear sight of her G17. We prefer flat black rear sights. I like others have tried painting them, but the paint wears off or the raised outline of the white outline shows
I don't know how many people know that the white outline is a plastic insert in a horseshoe shaped groove.
What I did last night was to fill the grove with some Brownells accra glass bedding compound mixed with their black dye, and let dry. Today I sanded the face flat. I think that something like black ABS cement may also work.
I can still see a little bit of groove outline. So I'm gonna go to a hobby shop and by some flat black model paint to disguise the outline and then reverse the sight.

Not really my cup of tea, but the work you did was really good. :D

Nice mod, if you don't like the white. I have the 3 dot Nite Sight system on my G26 and love it! Whatever works for ya, I say go for it! Enjoy! :)

I don't have a real problem one way or the other. My favorites though
are the Tru Dot night sights on my PM9.

Yeah, I just replace those crappy plastic things called sights with night nights as soon as I can. BTY I never tried, but couldn't you take some very fine emery cloth and just sand the white line off? Then a very light touch and slow speed a quick Dermel polish?

I used a Sharpie to black-out all but a "Heine" style post. Love it!

No. The white outline is a horseshoe shaped plastic insert that fits in a about a 1/64" to 1/32" horseshoe shaped groove

For me , never again. Have two K9s since 1999. Had the nite sights replace twice on both, form then till now. The Novak fronts went out first. We also have two PM9s that had nite sights, since about 2007, again with Novak rears. We decided no more nite sights. So several months ago we went with Flat black Novak rears and Hi-viz F.O. fronts

I just remove them and turn then around. I've also removed sanded them down and a little flat black spray bomb. But it is just easiest to replace them with a steel set of sights to your liking.

I haven' found a flat black paint that doesn't rub off. When I do a mod I want it to last and look good.
I'd like to find a flat black sight that works with the factory front sight heights, but I don't know of any. And since I'm using a Hi-viz F.O. front sight that is slightly taller then the standard Glock front I went with a +1 Glock rear sight, which is .270" instead of the G17 .256"

Best answer, by far.

I was a traditional three dot NS guy for years.
Decades actually, but then I feel old - LOL.
Then I got some Ameriglo I-Dot Pros that I liked even more.
Finally I fell in love with XS Systems 24/7 Express Big Dots.
For CQC Close Quarters Combat they are far and away the best sights I've ever used.
I've got them on my Glock G27/357, Sig P220/45, S&W 640-1 and S&W 342 ti.
And am having them installed on my Sig P239/357 as we speak.

My S&W 629-2 has factory adjustable target sights
and my Kahr MK40 Elite has factory three dot NS.
I'll likely leave those two alone.

3 dot Mepro night sights on my G30. Love them! But I have to say I have fallen in love with the bar-dot sights on the Kahrs. My sight aquisition is way better with those.

Same for me. My Glock 23 came with very bright night sights installed at the factory, but with the bar-dot sights on my CM9, target acquisition is easier and faster.

Look shiny.........to continue the drift.

Had a POS Taurus with the Heine Sights (dot-dot) that I never could hit anything with, then I got the CW9 with the bar dot. Big difference with the CW9 bar dot ;)

Ameriglo makes flat black rear sights that will work with the Glock factory front sight:

10-8 makes a "U" notch black sight tha might work nicely with the Hi-Viz FO front sight:

Thanks Greg
The 10-8 rear looks nice but needs a .215"-250" front sight. The Glock factory front sight is .165" tall, and I have a new Hi-viz F.O. front sight. But the Ameriglo may fit the bill once I'm sure I figured out the puzzle that lead me to do what I did. Then I can decide on a rear sight height.
I did what I did to take out any distractions to front sight focus. This all started because all of a sudden my wife started to shoot low on 8" plates that she'd hit poa-poi from 10-16 yds. before I replaced the depleted nite sights with a factory rear and the Hi-viz F.O. .
I know I mentioned all the draw and fire practice she does so trigger controll wasn't the issue. The low hits were worse with slow fire. She started to shoot about 3" low but I could still do poa-poi with her gun. We think it's all because of her improved eye sight since surgery.
