View Full Version : P barrel vs CW barrel?

I have a P45 and a CW9... I was cleaning both of them a few weeks ago and dropped both the barrels in Hoppes to soak for a while.

I pulled the P45's barrel out, wiped it down, scrubbed it out and all is well.

I pulled the CW9's barrel out, wiped it down, and about soiled my drawers. Unlike the P45's barrel, the CW9's barrel darkened up. I rubbed on it a while but it's obviously stained in some way.

I've read the warnings about soaking nickel-plated parts in Hoppes overnight... is the barrel on the CW9 some sort of electrolytically plated finish?

It doesn't really bother me, in fact, I wish the slide was black like my P45's, but I'm just curious.

I thought the only differences was that the P's were polygonal rifling and the CW's were standard rifling.

I would give Kahr a call and ask them.

As has been said, the CW45 has a nickle plated barrel.
I know, because mine started chipping off.
I called Kahr and they replaced the barrel.http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/ad14/bobb3950/DSC04000.jpg

Just soak the barrel in kroil oil or something like kg-12. I have not use a old school cleaner in 30 years. breakfree clp for lube too.

.

I'm assuming the P45's barrel is straight-up stainless steel.

the barrell is nickel plated

I just never would have guessed it was nickel plated... :(
