The AZUSA World Championships were awesome. In the next few days I'll get some pictures and a more detailed write up together for the AZSA website. As a quick rundown, the event hosts, organizers, and participants are some of the best people I've met in the shooting sports. They are friendly and make new participants feel very welcome. I really enjoyed it. The capers were challenging and fun. There were some interesting guns, especially in the side matches. The range support and food vending was provided by a local 4-H shooting club. Look for more details soon!

I hope to join AZUSA next year if I can make the move to CO.

An equipment question...what was the most common shotgun used? The range for the Copicut Zooters doesn't allow for shotguns right now, so I'm thinking long term...

I think it was a toss up between Remington model 11s and Winchester (also Chinchester) model 1897s. I used an Ithica 37 Trenchgun. The semi auto guns seemed faster than the pump guns if that matters to you. I think there is interest in Browning A5s, both old and new. I did not see any double barrels.

How much did barrel length matter on the shotgun stages? Was thee any advantage to short barrels?

Actually, barrel length did not seem to be a factor. The shotgun targets were close and watching several participants with longer barrel shotguns, they seemed as fast as the shorter barrel guns. I didn't time them, just my impression. A bigger factor was capacity, several stages had 6 or 7 targets, most shotguns hold 5 rounds total (4 in the tube and 1 in the chamber), however, I think some 97s have a spring kit that allows 5 rounds in the tube, for 6 rounds total. Not having to reload or top off a shotgun saves a lot of time. My Ithica Model 37 trenchgun holds 4 in the tube and one in the chamber so I had to reload on a couple of stages.

To get a good feeling for the guns used in the matches there are a few videos on the Zoot Shooters Facebook page. These videos were made by "Ike Hildum" a great guy and excellent marksman. Here's the link http://www.facebook.com/zootshooters
