This is my first thread since joining. I held off because I didn't think I had anything to say. But one thing has struck me since joining ... and that is that I feel very much like an expectant father. I'm 66 and never owned a gun before in my life. I'm waiting for my Connecticut permit to come through, and then I'll purchase a CM9. In the meantime, I sit and wait. The doctor said the due date should be sometime around March 22. Am I alone in feeling like this, or have others gone through the same experience as well?

I think we've all gone through those same exact feelings and it doesn't have to be the first child either.
I have many and each new arrival is still as exciting as the last.

Enjoy it, savor it and by all means expedite.

March 22nd! That's cruel and unusual punishment. Hate to see you go thru that.

Time never, EVER moves slower than when you're waiting for your next firearm to arrive. Much less the first one, I would imagine.

I am with you! Every time I get a new one, it can't come fast enough. Hours seem like days. Then you just want to hold it for a little while.

Welcome to the forum, RevRay! :) There is a wealth of valuable information in the New Member Area (http://kahrtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=56) and the Kahr-Tech (http://kahrtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=27) sections of the forum.

And welcome to the CM9 Owners Club! :D Our official symbol is the wide grin smily because we are so happy with our purchase that we can't wipe the smiles off our faces!

Here is your club badge.

The best holster I have found for forget-it-is-there comfort 24/7 with my CM9 is the PJ IWB Holster (http://pjholster.com/?page_id=37). There are so, so many members here that will concur. Paul is a great guy and a real gun lover, and he performs magic with kydex - making the holster incredibly comfortable to where you can't tell it is there whether sitting, standing or moving about. It is like the mass of the gun disappears, becoming one with your body. I carry mine with a 15° cant just behind my hip - the sweet spot. I prefer the linked one with the over the belt clip. It is available with j-hook, c-hook and velcro attachment method, and tuckable is an option. I have a tuckable one with velcro for if I need total concealment, but normally wear the above under a loose shirt.

Welcome to the forum, RevRay.

You can study up and be ready to run with the following info and links. March 22 will be OUR 27th anniversary... OUR second and last marriage! We're still quite happy... though she has second thoughts... sometimes, I'm sure! Oh, BTW, I'mm 66... going on 12, myself... or is it 5??

Anyhow:

Welcome to the Kahrtalk forum supported by Kahr Arms.
Here are a few essential links and things to do BEFORE you take your new pistol to the range, and ESPECIALLY BEFORE taking it apart and trying to re-assemble it! The Kahr is a different design… 6-7 unique patents cover the Kahrs. I’m not trying to imply that you don’t know anything about guns, but many don’t know anything about the Kahrs and some of the things you can do to damage or cause malfunctions of your new, or new-to-you Kahr pistol.
First, if you don’t have a manual, yet, or one didn’t come with your pistol, you can download the pdf file here:
http://www.kahr.com/PDF/kahrmanual.pdf
Impatient? Watch one of these videos FIRST! These videos can point out possible problem areas and emphasize correct procedures!
Take down and re-assembly videos:

K series:

There are many links on fixing problems listed in several places… under the New Member or Kahr Tech sub-forums.
A very handy one is the Kahr Lube Diagram:

Many of your questions can be answered in these areas and you can learn how your Kahr works and not damage it with improper handling.
Frequently asked questions: http://www.kahr.com/faq.asp?

There are many helpful members here most of the time who might be able to help you, but as anywhere, there are many opinions and not all are correct. Be mindful of this before doing anything drastic to modify your pistol!

Welcome
I left Connecticut when Weicker was elected Governor, just to payback those who bumped him out of Congress, with a state income tax.
I know things have changed there but I didn't think you needed a concealed carry permit just to buy a handgun.

Yep, you need a "Permit to Purchase" or a "Permit to Carry" to purchase a handgun. You don't need one for a regular rifle, though there is a two-week waiting period if you don't have a permit. So I wait.

Thanks for all the helpful links. Being the obsessive/compulsive person that I am, I will look at all the links and watch all the videos, and download all the appropriate manuals, while I wait for March 22 arrive. Congrats on your many years of marriage too.

Welcome! The forum links above are superb. When my CW9 arrived, I was totally prepared to do a tear-down, clean and lube which went very well thanks to the forum members.

Waiting was the hardest part for me too. My first pistol purchase was a cm9 last month. Ordered from buds. They forgot to send me the email saying it shipped. After 2 weeks, I finally inquired to find out it arrived that day! Not knowing the timing was rough. Love the guys and help on this forum, hang in there and welcome:D

I am selling my CM9 with Crimson Trace Laser, 2, 6 round magazines with grip extenders, 1, 6 round magazine without grip extender, 1, 7 round magazine and a Kydex IWB holster made for the crimson trace to be attached.
This gun has been flawless with my carry ammo(speer gold dot +p) since day 1 and has been great with all ammo since I adjusted the magazines and removed a turn off of the spring.
If you are in NH I would be willing to take you to the range to shoot it before purchase.
Sale must go through a FFL. Selling as a package only. FFL fee and shipping not included.
Asking $550 for all.

Mark

Well, I just received confirmation that my new to me CM9 arrived at Newington Gun Exchange (in CT) today; and they're holding it for me until my permit finally comes in. The accessories will be shipped by this weekend.

If you're wondering why I'm posting this ... it's simple ... expectant fathers can't do much else but obsess and wait.

Hello, RevRay, and welcome from Missouri to a great forum. Good people and info here!

Since you are new to this handgun, self defense arena, consider taking some good self defense classes. I also recommend you check out the many free YouTube videos made by Massad Ayoob, a world-class instructor in handgun use and self defense, who has recorded training sessions in Judicious Use of Force, Shoot to Live, Home Invasion, Preparation for Home Defense, and What to Do After a Shooting. Just Google his name and these topics and the YouTubes should show up. Very good instructional information from an expert, and free.

Here is a very good technical review of self defense ammo, when you want to consider this:
http://ammo.ar15.com/project/Self_Defense_Ammo_FAQ/index.htm

This is an informative review by a doctor of different gunshot wounds effects; we all need to be aware of this real-life information:
http://www.everydaynodaysoff.com/2012/08/26/doctor-talks-about-gunshot-wounds/

Take care, and best wishes to you and yours!
