I don't post here often but I held a CT380 in my hands tonight at my local shop. I was set on getting a cw380 but this CT380 was much nicer imho. I its smaller than a Glock 42 but bigger than the cw380. Perfect size and price tag was 289.99. I bought it will report more soon as I get it to the range. Anyone else have one? This is my 4th kahr I'm addicted to these guns.

Please keep us informed. I bought a Glock 42 two months ago, and had I known Kahr was making the CT380, I probably would have waited for it. Especially if you were able to get it for $289.99! I paid full price for the Glock, extra magazines, and the spring kits to make the magazines hold 7 rounds.

If the Kahr is as pleasant to shoot as the model 42, it would be worth my time to switch.

Is it too early to ask for a factory extended, threaded barrel for it? I think a small browning action pistol would be a great host for a dedicated .380 suppressor. Why? Because centerfire .380 is far more reliable than rimfire .22lr. It may not be as cheap to shoot, but I've been reloading .380 for decades.

How does racking the slide compare to your other kahr's? Is it any easier?

It takes about the same effort maybe a little less than my cm9 and cw9. All my Kahrs slides are hard to rack...Well harder to rack than other manufacturers I should say.

Pictures! I hope the range session goes well... If you post pictures, would you do it side by side with your CM9 for a comparison, or a picture of both in your hand to see how big the grip is compared to the CM9. I am very interested in the CT380 and look forward to your report....

I'm interested in the CT380, too. Kahr hasn't posted the schematic yet and I haven't seen any hands-on tests and disassembling to show the recoil spring system used. I hope that it's a single spring and racking can be easier for my wife.

If anyone comes across this info... recoil spring(?), please post the info here.

I compared the ct 380 to my pm9 and it's about 1/8" shorter and about the same amount taller.
It's thin like the p380.
Seen 2 at the gun show but didn't buy. May get one once I see if they run properly.

I have two existing Kahrs on my wishlist now... the CT380 and a DLC P45 with NS... preferably something like the Trijicon HD NS.

The CT380 would have the MagGuts conversion to 8-round mags and be for Wifey. I think that would be better than the G42... and be a KAHR!!

Wifey needs to practice and learn to rack semi-autos.

Just seen it - looks great - what an amazing price!! - How in the world is it less than half the price of the P380?
However, I must say that my P380 is more than 1/2 inch shorter and about 1/2 inch less in height, so it hides easily in all my sunny California clothing. (need to be ready to meet the "wolf" Bawanna mentioned)
The 1 1/2 oz extra weight of the CT did not feel like much - a slight extra droop of the shirt pocket during my "weight test" (no, I don't carry my P380 in my shirt pocket, even though it is close to my heart).
Tell us more about the feel, quality and performance at the range.

10-14-2014, 12:28 PM
Oh, I forgot to mention that I could place all 3 fingers around the grip of the CT - which I can't do with the standard 6-round P380 (perfect with the 7-round mag).

Hey Wynn, do you know for sure that the MagGuts kit will work in the longer magazine tube?

Hi, Bruce. Keep up your good work!

I think that MagGuts makes a 7-round .380 +1 kit for the Kahr .380's and that should work with the new magazine. I don't know if there's a difference in the tube length for the new 7-round metal-based Ct-380 mags and the extended-grip 7-round mags for the P/CW380's. I put metal bases on all of the mags for my 9mm/.40 S&W mags for concealed carry... flusher than the polymer-based "flush-fitting" mags. I prefer a shorter grip to using the "pinkie rest" bases.

I've switched from PM to P models for my CCW, my favorite two carries being the P40 and then the P9. I do carry the "hi-capacity" Kahr mags for reloads in an OWB carrier, opposite side.

6 or 7-round conversions:

Hey Wynn. I have some MagGuts kits for the 6 round P380 magazines here at the house that I will be reviewing for on the blog. Total brain fart on my part that they also make a kit for the 7 round magazine. I guess it would make sense for me to review both at the same time. One more good reason to buy a CT380.

I got mine out last week. I put 50 rounds of Reminton fmj, 50 rounds of Herter's fmj and 25 rounds of Fiochi jhp downrange without a malfunction. The sights are much better than those on the CW380 I used to own. The longer grip makes it very easy to shoot. It is actually smaller and easier to conceal than I thought it would be.

I still want to know what the recoil spring assembly is like for the CT-380. I would think that it would be like the P-series... a single coil spring with the guide rod. So far no one has reported what the RSA is like or posted any photos... of the insides!

I briefly held one at the last gun show and it's so thin, but more grip and barrel than the P380. I don't "need" one, but maybe I can get Wifey to learn how to rack this one. She wants a smaller grip on her pistol. I thought that the G19 Gen 4 would do, but she's not crazy about the 9mm. She liked the .22LR Tac-Sol conversion and shooting .22LR in it, but then I took the conversion out and she wasn't having fun anymore!

I do like the CT-380 size... but I have the P9, P40, and my PM45, as well as the PM9 and my P380. The PM9 is just a backup for when too many of the others are dirty from the range and I'm being lazy.

You got that right - mine is really tough to rack all the way back.

I just pulled mine out of the bag and didn't even clean off the packing oil. It's not that bad with an empty magazine in place. It might be more difficult with a full mag. Do you guys know the push/push slide manipulation method? Turn 90 degrees to the right (assuming right-hander here). Bring gun up to tummy level with muzzle pointed down range (why you turned 90 degrees to the right before starting). Grasp slide at serrations with left hand reaching over the top of the slide. Left hand thumb is closest to your body and left index finger on other side of slide. Push grip forward with your right hand, while pushing slide back with your left hand. You should find it much easier to rack the slide.

If push/push is still difficult, you can always do some isometric arm exercises to build up strength. Use the same push/push motion, with your hands joined where the pistol would be if trying to rack the slide.

I really had a bugger of a time with my LCP when I first got it until I learned the push/push method. As the recoil springs start to take a set, the slide will get easier to pull back.

Just got a chance to shoot my new ct380 today. Only had about 60 rounds with me so I am still in the break in period. Had some trouble with the seller & Belloit ammo I was using but the hornaday critical defense ammo ran perfectly. Very accurate and a great trigger. Kahr has another winner with this one.

Also, for what is is worth, I tried mine in a holster made for a Walther PPK and it fits. It is tight now, but I am sure it will loosen up over time.

Berettabone, if the .45 you are talking about is the CM45, Check Palmetto State Armory from time to time, I was able to get one there at a very reasonable price. They sell out pretty quick though.

Admittedly, I'm not a .380 fan, but I wonder why one would purchase a .380 that was larger than a 9mm? Particularly when the .380 has been a troublesome caliber for Kahr off and on over the years. Ammo is usually more expensive, harder to find, and with less selections available than the 9mm. I can see owning the smaller CW380 or P380, for a lightweight summer gun, or a backup, but the CT380 just has me wondering why? What advantage does it have over the CM9 or even the CW9 which is about the same height I believe, and about a half inch longer?

I ordered one of those Remoras for mine (the 30% off special with a free mag pouch) and it was on the local truck to be delivered Christmas Eve. However, the tracking said "undeliverable - insufficient address", and it was returned to the sender.
It turns out, I left the 1st letter off my street address name & the substitute driver didn't have a clue.

Tracking said it got back to the sender on the 13th of this month. I had already alerted "Pauleen" at Remora CS what happened - she replied that she had copied my email & said they would resend it whenever it got back to them (I had told them to bill me for the second shipping since it was my typo error in the first place).

Have not heard anything yet - no email notification about sending it out again. Guess I'll have to email her again.

The CT380 is about 5 ounces lighter & somewhat thinner than a CW9, therefore more concealable - particularly in a short pants pocket. I pocket carry an LCP 90% of the time and was looking for something a bit stouter & more manageable to grip. Hence the CT380.

Do have a CW45 to IWB carry whenever I lose some more weight & get a good fitting pair of pants & a belt. Also plan to get a CW9 for IWB carry in case the .45 is too bulky for me. I'm just getting finicky and don't care to tote heavy iron.

Besides, I don't plan to get into a pitched battle, but would use the .380 as a "get off me gun" or a noisy "I'm leaving the scene" distraction. But that's just me.

TheTman

Well sometimes what you plan for and what happens are quite different. I think the .380 is a fine summer gun, but not so much of a winter gun where it may have to penetrate several layers of clothing before it hits any body parts. They are making .380 +P loads that approach 9mm standard velocity FPS and FPE, so I guess if you use the right loads you are about as well equipped with a .380 as a 9mm. And if that 5 ounces of weight you save with the .380, makes the difference between going out armed or not, then by all means go with the .380. For myself, I prefer something that I can count on stopping someone, I don't have the ability to run fast or very far any more, although I'm sure a shot of adrenaline might kick in the turbo charger for a bit. I did downsize from the CW45 to the CM45. For now I mostly carry my CW40 until I am satisfied that the CM45 is well broken in. Maybe it's short guy syndrome, along with getting older, that makes me want to carry a larger caliber.

That's what I have a CW45 for.

For those that are carrying a CT380 in a holster either owb or owb. What are you using for a holster.
I'm just going to pocket carry mine.
