View Full Version : Anyone Wear a Shoulder Rig Under Their shirt?

I just bought a Galco Classic lite shoulder holster for my PM9. I
already have Galco Miami Classic II, so set up was quick.

I live in FL and all I wear is a single T-shirt to conceal. So I will be
wearing it directly against my skin. To hot for a second shirt.

Other than the wide shoulder straps digging into my neck (very
uncomfortable), it's very comfortable and conceals GREAT! Almost
impossible to spot, unless you knew what to look for and even then
it would be difficult.

I think I will trim the shoulder straps so they are as thin as possible
and make some type of sleeve that slides over the straps, probably
out of some type of moisture wicking material.

Anyone ever been in this situation?

The PM9 is a great pocket carry gun

I also live in Florida and for me the best way is to pocket carry or IWB but mostly pocket.
I think the key is a quality holster and not the production stuff, it really makes a difference when it is a good holster.

I don't pocket carry anything anymore...to slow of a draw for me.

The shoulder rig is only for when the PM9 is carried as a BUG.

Primary is always OWB at 3:00 +/-, which is the fastest draw for me.

If a pocket draw is too slow, how in the world do you draw from a shoulder holster under a Tee shirt? I'm having trouble visualizing how that all works... how it can be concealed and not print.

With my left hand I pull up on my t-shirt and reach in with my right. At least
for me, it's much faster than trying to get my hand in my pocket and draw.

All my t-shirts are one size big, so they are loose fitting. The holster is thin and
flat and with a loose fitting t-shirt it just drapes over it and doesn't print.
Sometimes you can spot a very slight bulge from the grip, but you have to be
looking and it doesn't do it all the time at all.

Seems like a contradiction to narrow the straps that dig in and are uncomfortable. Seems to me that unless you cover them with something even wider yet softer they would dig more. The thin tshirt rules out anything thick. I suggest temporarily trying your strap cover full width before doing anything irreversible to the strap.

Seems like it would be extremely slow to put into action if you had to.

Just sayin.

Hip holsters ftw.

The shoulder rig is just for when I carry as a BUG, not primary.

For me, it beats pocket or ankle.

I'm pretty sure the reason it digs into my neck is because the shoulder
straps are to wide. If they were narrower, they wouldn't be able to
reach my neck.

Actually I could put the straps on backwards to test. That is the straps
that go over your shoulders are wide, but the straps that go under your
arms are narrower. Then I would know for sure if trimming them would
solve the problem.

I have always worn a nylon shoulder rig when I use them, but I also always have a shirt on underneath.

I tried reversing the straps so that the thinner straps that normally go
under your arms are instead the straps that go over your shoulders. It
worked well, they didn't reach my neck because they were thinner. But
the rough edges of the shoulder straps was still a bit uncomfortable to
my bare skin.

So I'm definitely going to trim the shoulder straps and have strap covers
made for them. I'm confident the combination will solve the problem and
make comfortable enough that I won't have a problem wearing directly
against my skin.

I will post some before/after pics once it's done, in case anyone is
interested.
