Utah: Acording to the SLC Tribune, SB 36 passed the Senate and moves on to the House.

The Bill requires a nonresident applicant for a concealed firearm permit to hold a current concealed firearm or concealed weapon permit from the applicant's state of residency that recognizes the validity of the Utah permit in that state or has reciprocity with the Utah concealed firearm permit law; and requires a nonresident applicant to pay an additional $5 processing fee.

There is some paperwork showing the bill will cause nearly $1.3 million DECREASE in revenue to Utah, starting in FY 2012.

Just sayin'.

kinda makes no sense to charege $5 if one is a non resident and has a ccw permit and that states recongizes utah, and then add to that the cost of paperwork of 1.3 million. course those people in that office division have to be doing something to. Oh well us Indiana boys won't be visiting Utah much with a gun but it is a start.

The reason this bill was introduced is that people in some states that have reciprocity with Utah (or honor their permit) were only applying for the Utah permit. By making this change, some states who have dropped acceptance of the Utah permit will acknowledge it again. The Senate has approved the House amendment which clarifies that persons living in states that do not have reciprocity with Utah or honor a Utah license do not need a home state permit in order to apply.

The $ 5.00 added fee for first-time non-resident applicants seems reasonable enough, especially considering that renewals are only $ 10.00.

The next bill that will likely pass in Utah is "Constitutional Carry". No permit will be required to carry in Utah, although they will still issue permits to applicants who want them because it will allow them to carry in the states who have reciprocity with Utah or otherwise accept a Utah license.
