M1 Carbine "practice rifle"

I love my AO M1 Carbine. I don't get to shoot it as often as I'd like because I belong to an indoor range that doesn't allow centerfire rifle. Last year, I purchased a Marlin 795 I planed to put Tech-Sights on it to use for practice and maybe Appleseed. This never worked out because the receiver was "off" on the Marlin and the sights never lined up properly...I ended up putting a cheap scope on the Marlin and scarping the project.

Since then the M1 ended up in an awesome Choate stock.

This week I finally got around to ordering the parts and buying a Ruger 10/22 to build an actual and very close "practice rifle".
I bought a basic Ruger 10/22 carbine, Steel-Lips 25r extended mags, TSR100 Tech-Sights (http://www.tech-sights.com/ruger3.htm), and a matching Choate pistol grip stock (http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=875770).

Yesterday, the sights came in and I picked up the rifle. The Choate should be here any day, I'll get some more pics when the 10/22 is completely built with both rifles side by side. Here's the build so far. I'm going to take is out today for a sight-in/ break-in fun run :)

Nice. I love my 10/22, and good Lord willing we will get the state department to allow us peons to buy a South Korean vintage M1 carbine. I want one of those and just can't scrape the cash.

I can remember when the NRA had an agreemtn with DCM back 50 years ago, I ordered throught he NRA one M1 carbine, for $20 bucks, yes twenty bucks, with no guarantee that it would be anything other than a M1 carbine U. S. issue.

Mine came to me and trust me, IT WAS TOTALLY NEW, NEVER USED, STILL PACKED WITH COSMOLINE. NEW. I kept if ro about 10 years and sold it, What a dumb sh-t now that I think about it. In my little mind, I think it was a Rock-ola made version, but it also could have been a Remington Rand version also..

I'll get them out in natural light to get some better pics soon. For now these will have to do. The 10/22 feels amazingly like the M1 Carbine...I'm happy with how these came out..

Very very nice Pain! I'm trying to figure out how the front sight latches up. The link just shows the base with no barrel band but the barrel band is still there on your rifle. Can a person install that front sight himself or need a smith. I put a heavy barrel on mine and it's been awhile since I looked at my factory tapered barrel so I don't recall what the front looks like.

The front sight is a PITA to get off...or at least get started out of its dove tail, I had to sit on the rifle and rap away with a rubber mallet and punch. The Tech-Sight has a pretty ingenious mounting system for the FS so it is fairly easy to get on.

btw: the Choate stock for the 10/22 used a proprietary barrel band and the M1 stock uses the original
