All,
Come on yall....lets get some info going back and forth! I will start.

What can be done to get your SBR looking as WW2 as possible?

Front site?, Butt plate?, Wood finish?, Metal finish?, Rear sight?, magazines?
Sling?

Come on chime in!

Here's what I did to mine:

NOS G.I. wood (buttstock, pistol grip, foregrip)
NOS G.I. buttstock plate and oiler
NOS barrel band (a lot of Lend Lease M1A1's had them)
10.5" smooth barrel
USGI Kerr sling
EZ Pull spring set (for that FA pull)
Parkerized finish
Modified mag catch to accept GI mags
Lok-Tite on the rear sight screws

What can be done:

Radius/round the receiver edges
Add FA/semi selector switch to trigger frame
Add GI paddles/switches
Rivets on the rear sight

I'm sure there are some other small details to make it look like a Savage...:)

The stuff mentioned above will work plus you could leave it outside for a few moths to give it the "weathered" look! :D

Yeah...I've rolled around in the dirt at WW2 reenactments for the last 4 or 5 years I've had it, taking hits....it works wonders for the weathering!:D

This is what the owner had written about it. "The full auto switch now performs the job of a manual bolt hold open (i.e. third hand) to simplify changing drum magazines. Basically what I did was marry a Kahr Thompson (Commando Model) with a original Savage manufactured parts kit (from IMA). The semi internals were fitted by me to the full auto lower. The lower was modified to fit the semi receiver (forward step and groove for firing pin clearance). Additionally I modified the magazine catch to function with GI Magazines and altered the receiver to permit disassembling without tools. With the barrel change, I also replaced the hanger with an original one. And set the weapon up to allow for interchanging of the barrel. Basically all I kept from the Kahr was the receiver and internals, everything else is original GI."

Anybody have any idea how to do this mod? Sounds really handy.

Instead of buying the Kerr sling just go to a gun show and buy a used M1 Garand sling, it works fine on mine.
