Does the K9 depend on the magazine extension to accomodate the 7th round?

If one were willing to sacrifice the 7th round, in exchange for a smaller profile, can the magazine extension be removed and a flush fit base plate be subsituted?

Will a 6 round PM9 magazine fit the K9? (I know this might be a bit of a stretch.)

Finally, why the heck is there this magazine extension on a pistol intended to be concealed???

Viva la flush fit magazine base plate.

The standard mag for a K9 holds 7 rounds, which has a finger rest but could be fitted with a metal "flush" base plate. The K9 can also use two other mags; the straight 8 round mag (meant for the T9), or the extended grip 8 round mag.

The PM9 mag will not fit.

Finally, why the heck is there this magazine extension on a pistol intended to be concealed???
Three reasons; for people that have big hands, simply want it, such as in range use, or carried as a re-load.

Thanks Ripley. Are the flush base plates available from Kahr?

The mag extension is simply to give the shooter a option. More rounds and less concealabilty or fewer rounds and more concealability. Kahr realizes everyone has a different opinon and trys to cover as much of the market base as possible.

I would think the K9 will do OK even wkith the 8 orund extended magazine in it as IMO the mag well area is longer than like the PM9 magwell, so any torq1uae on the bottom of the magazine probalby willnot hurt funtionality. One is not gonna do anything but waist band carry a K9 anyways, so that one round extended magazine should be an OK magazine for the K9's..
