Has anyone sent their Kahr in to have it refinished by Kahr?
Wondering if they can refinish a SS pistol with the black finish?

no they won't refinish it in the dlc finish. try this fella. He did my PM9 with a titanium flake finish that is awesome and it lasts like the dlc finish.

he is one super smitty and can make your kahr look awesome..

I am a big fan of NP3 if you are open to more than one type of finish:

Robar NP3 Firearms Finish (http://www.robarguns.com/np3.htm)

One of my DSA ARs has NP3 on the internals and it is the easiest to clean AR I own. You can pull the bolt carrier assembly and just wipe it off with a cloth. Nothing sticks. It runs as smooth dry as it does lubed. I also used a FAL with NP3 on the internals for the Team Spartan FAL training course. Again, just pull the relevant parts and wipe them off. No elbow grease needed.

Not sure what services the Kahr Shop offers, but I had some magazines done by Springer Precision (http://www.springerprecision.com/). They came out great, and the coating is tough as nails. If you visit their site, you will see they do slides as well. This is his work:

The first week I had the mags back, I attended a class where we were dropping the magazines on a concrete floor all day - doing speed reloads. I was definitely apprehensive about damaging them, but they survived without a scratch! What better torture test? And now I am more than impressed with the finish...

Parasite, those look good. Do they have a name for that finish?

Thanks for the compliment. And, the coating I got is called IonBond (it's also referred to as Diamond Black Coating on Springer's website). I believe it's the only coating process Springer offers.

It is an almost perfect match to the stock DLC coating. When everything is bone dry, the IonBond is slightly more glossy. When both have a thin coat of oil, they match perfectly.

That probably won't be a concern of yours though, since you're not trying to match. When you decide on what coating you want from whom, don't forget to include your slide release and trigger, unless you prefer the accents.

Here's a link to Springer's order form that lists all prices for recoating: http://www.springerprecision.com/art/IonBond.pdf

After putting it through it's paces, I feel it was worth every penny...

Yea I gotta say those mags look excellent Parasite!! My one small "complaint" if you could call it that of my DLC'd PM9 is the shiny floor plate of the mag sticking out of my IWB should my cover garmant slide up just a tad. Hell even if they would have just coated the floor plate's I would have been happier!

As soon as I get another 6rd mag I will be sending them both out for this coating! Thanks for the link and pics!

Jocko, did they have any issue doing just the mags? The order form said minimum order of $50 so I was curious about that.

part, I had just wrote to them and ask what they would charge to refinish mag, they quoted me $15 each plus postage, they never said anything about a minimum, so will have to see what they do with my 2 mags I just sent them.

Indeed the kahr mags sure would look nice with a black floor plate. I hated that butt ugly silver one on my dlc finish PM9. I tried painting them and they lasted very shortly, so I will see how this holds out. Karh magazines are stainless, so maybe that is why they don't worry about putting a finish on them..

I felt the same way, so when I sent in my magazine order, I had them do a few extra floor plates as well.

Nice! Did you have those extra floor plates from other mags? or can you buy just the floor plates from Kahr? I might do the same thing!

Is there any other purpose to this beside aesthetics?

just came across this posting pertaining to Springer Precision's IONBond from September. What has the experience been since then and what was the turn around time for the coating? Thanks!

Jocko,

You never gave a report on how you like the mags or the turn around time. I expect that no news is good news but we don't knews and would like too. Hint, hint.
