New K-9

Kahr K-9 Range Report
After spending a great deal of time, I finally settled on a Kahr K-9 for my IWB, CCW

I was leaning toward a CW9, but I found a LNIB on Gunbroker for only $450 with night sights, that I couldnt pass on. It doesnt have a scratch on it, and quite honestly worried that I bought someone else's lemon.

Well after my range trip....and 80ish rounds.......no FTE....... No FTF...

I am extremely happy with the purchase


Comments:

1) I need some more "trigger time" to get used to the long Kahr trigger. Its very smooth, but you can tell from the pictures, I was "pushing" the gun.

It was better by the end.

2) Recoil is VERY tame

3) Feel of the gun is awesome, and I enjoy the full grip. The "heft" was also good as I like an all steel gun. With the Crossbreed holster that I reformed the kydex to match the Kahr, I forgot that I was even carrying.

As an added note, I couldnt believe how easy it was to reform Kydex. 2 minutes in the oven at 350 is PERFECT. Just wear gloves to reform around the pistol. Put your pistol in the holster to be reformed after the 2 mins.
(I am sure some folks have put their pistol in the oven as well.....LOL)

The gloves ARE needed.

4) The handle fits perfect in my hand, and though I may buy some nice wood grips at some point, the rubber grips are very comfortable.

5) The "Thin" IS better, escpecially for IWB, CCW. This pistol fits in very nicely at just ay .9 inch. My past CCW was 1.45, which is a bit too chubby.

All in All........ this is a great gun, that doesnt get mentioned as much.

hell of a price to. gun was made early 2009, You should have no issues as that is kahrs bread ad butter gun. Ihave a K9 tha tis probgalby close to 6+years old and it goes banfg every tme, kinda disgusting sometimes even.. I don't shoot it as good as yoiur groups are though..

How long did it take for you to learn the trigger vs a traditional DA/SA?

I forgot to mention that it also has the elite trigger upgrade according to the seller(gunsmith)

(for those days that I need to pocket carry)

I needed a 9mm that everyone in the family could shoot.

Hey Dean congrats. Question on the crossbreed did you have to remove the kydex or put the whole thing in the oven. I got my first Kahr coming a CW9 and it would be great to reform one of my holsters to fit. Thanks

IMO the recoil on the K40 isn't bad at all. As a means of comparison, I find the recoil from my 642 and Glock 23 to be less pleasant.

I left the kydex on the leather holster

I did take the metal belt clips off but the leather was fine

It heated up and it the kydex part became pliable

(it didnt melt into a pile of goo)

It took me a few times to heat it to get it right

I formed it and it wasnt perferct the first time

2 mins at 350...... thats the right temp and time

It appears that you can reheat this stuff again... again.... and again
