UPDATE:

July 29, 2011

I just made my second order of 500 rounds or more of ammo... ammo on sale and $5 shipping through August 2! This saves about $12 off shipping on 500 rounds or so. I got Blazer ALuminum 230-gr FMJ for $15.99 a box last week, and then Herter's 95-gr .380 FMJ (all new, reloadable) for $12.99 a box, and I added a box of MFS 230-gr FMJ .45 for testing at $15.88 a box of 50... that and enough to get to $150 or more. $16 .45 range ammo... Whoopee!

Old post:

I just got a notice from Cabela's announcing free shipping on selected handgun ammo. The Federal Champion .45 230-gr FMJ is $17.99 $1 more than at Walmart, but without tax... at WM.

I was just at WM and the WW100-pack in .45 was $35.97 plus tax... $3 increase!

The Federal Champion was $18.16 a box of 50 with tax there. I can save $1.70 on 10 boxes from Cabela's... not great, but UPS delivers it to my door and I don't have to carry it home from WM.

Only 12 items listed for this deal... through 6 July:

There's some Herter's rooski steel-cased ammo in tins... 9mm and .45, for you guys that want some for long-term storage.

Thanks for the heads up. Ordered 600 9mm for target fodder. Not the cheapest but like you said the guy in brown drops it off at my door and no tax(I am sure the boys in the state capitals are going to change that soon). Thanks again.

Never heard of the Herters stuff. Looks kind of like Wolf, but the reviews on Cabelas sound worse than my experiences with Wolf.

I noticed those, too, and with my Wolf experience... smoky, stinky, and "dirty", I decided to pass on that. I like the reviewers' instructions on opening the cans... essentially up to 20 minutes and if you're bleeding, you did something wrong.

I shoot the Herter stuff out of my 1911. It's not nearly as bad as the Wolf stuff. That Wolf stuff is plain ol nasty.

I worry about the polymer coating fouling my gun... and the added wear from cycling steel cases through my "babies".
