Count me in as a 1911 fan. I have an AO service model Army version among many others.

jEEZ.... both you guys took my username as well! Needless to say, another 1911 fan here. Although...... I really like carrying my P380. That little beauty is the ultimate carry gun when you can't sport the big stuff (45acp).

I've only been out shooting a handful of times, but the last time I went, my friends and I shot at some mannequins. The 1911 was the only gun besides a 12 gauge shotgun that was able to knock over a mannequin. That mule can kick!

I have the 1911 army replica. I like mine and have changed a few parts like the barrel bushing, trigger(was too short for my liking), put on a extended slide release, took of the plastic grips and put on checkered wood.

I do wander why after my last shot the slide sometimes doesn't want to lock back, any ideas on that one.

Try changing to a different magazine. The mag spring pushes the follower up to engage the slide lock. I like Wilson mags. :D

Life is not complete without a good 1911....or preferably several! I won't even start mentioning calibers. I am one of those odd individuals that loves 10mm 1911s almost as much as 45!

:D

Of course .38 Super also has a place in my heart, just not in my wallet lately.

Love my AO .45 WWII nice, but heavy. Changed to Kimber Ultracarry II for everyday.

Howdy y'all... another new guy here. My AO 1911PKZSE was my first firearm in quite a few years and the first one that I have fired regularly in 37+ years. I've acquired a couple more 1911s and my AO model will have the distinction of being my "going to the country" gun with a couple shot-shell/snake rounds on top of the magazine.

Cheers !

Hey 1911 boys,
I like to shoot my friend's 1911 and my coworkers. The question is....... there is a 400.00 price difference between the two. But to me they "feel" the same. I have shot many .45s and I have never figured out the 1911 price thing. Should I get a el' cheapo to try a while or spend the money to get a mid-priced one?

I think that really depends on your expectations. If you get a GI styled gun from a quality maker, expect a pistol that runs well, groups acceptably, and is fun to shoot. If you decide that you want better sights, a better barrel, lighter trigger, various ergonomic improvements to the controls, special finishes, and other "modernizations" then you may want to spend more. I would first identify what features are must haves for you, then look at where that puts your budget. For me that includes better sights (tritium if it is a carry gun), easier to work safety, longer beavertail, improved trigger (weight and travel), durable finish, quality magazines, and comfortable grips. From that point on the rest are options.

The main difference between less expensive 1911s and more expensive ones that are similarly equipped is the way they are made. AO uses cast frames. Springfield Armory uses forged frames and slides. Forged are more durable, but I doubt you will wear out either one in a lifetime of use. It's more a consideration of military or heavy use like competition. Not sure if AO uses forged slides or not.

Thanks,
If I can keep my groups at 4-5 in @ 30-40 yrds I will be content with either a low or mid priced one.

Kimber Pro Carry II
Love it.
+1 on the Wilson mags, though when they're new, you need to stop one round short of a full load till the mags get broken in. You can have a flip up on the first cartridge otherwise and it can jam. Keep one out, no issues.
