Just for those who don't know:
Your COL (Cartridge Overall Length) is determined by;
your barrel (chamber and throat dimensions)
and
your gun (feed ramp)
and
your magazine (COL that fits...
>With 45 and 9 the only extra work we do is sort not only calibers but also manufactures. It seems to make things little more consistent
As I said, "Don't think I have really seen any TESTING of...
The main thing is why do unproven tricks (in the name of consistency) that are used for 0.3MOA rifles for long-distance shooting with a handgun that uses a different type of case (straightwall vs....
I find that best accuracy with semi-autos, that head space on the case mouth, comes from the longest cases. Thus, for 9x19, I set aside the few longer cases just for match loads. .45 Auto doesn't...
Bills1873: can't argue with your findings, just that I haven't found that true for my .38 Spl, .357 Mag, and .44 Rem Mag. No case length growth over time--in fact, just like my auto cases, they tend...
I think you might have meant jacketed, and not specifically FMJ.
For me, the most accurate bullets are L-HBWCs in .38 Spl.--particularly Remington L-HBWC.
Next are JHPs and my own cast L-SWCs....
Any case that head spaces on the case mouth, like the .45 Auto, needs to be long enough to minimize head space. Increasing head space by trimming the case will decrease accuracy.

>our points sound fine other than your statement about folks not being grounded in reloading. How do you know that and why in the world would you say that? Additionally, powder cops work just fine. I...
It sounds like you folks are trying to do too much without a proper grounding in reloading.
1) Size--be sure die is just touching the shell plate
2) Get a caliber/cartridge specific powder-thru...
Delta Precision or Precision Delta?
Casting and shooting for over 45 years.
6 mg/dl, or whatever units it is.
Note: they are aritificially lower the limit to build a case for outlawing lead bullets.
Used to be that anything under 20...
Get the Lee Universal Depriming Die and be done.
I find that 20/40 corn is perfect. It doesn't pack in the primer pocket or get stuck in the flash hole. Been depriming prior to cleaning for about 35...
If I look at the price of boxer-primed brass case 9x19 ammunition, I still save enough to pay for reloading. If I look at the group size, reloading really pays for itself.
If you already have the...
L-RN? How 1920-ish.
Your gun and the specific bullet ogive are the determinants for COL. Your specific bullet ogive, magazine lip geometry, feed ramp, and chamber will determine the COL. There are...
1) Excellent lead bullets are available for much less money.
2) Excellent jacketed bullets are available from Montana Gold, Precision Delta, and Zero for the same money as plated.
3) The .40S&W can...
It's the only thing that makes an RCBS RockCrusher worth keeping around...
PS: Lee dies are inexpensive. Buy a set for each press and forget adjusting anything but the seating stem ever again.
Light loads (below manual "starting" loads) are perfectly safe with almost all pistol powders (H110/296 will not work, but they will not burn below a certain pressure and you can end up with a wad of...
