Yeah... that's REALLY old stuff... old data...modern is present day... within the last few years... and there weren't really that many still surviving loads. There's a lot of more recent production ammo used by major law enforcement agencies.

And you have to consider the source of the data and their bias. I believe this data was spurned by a lot of real-life experts.

    Here's one discussion: http://greent.com/40Page/general/oss.htm

    Another: http://www.firearmstactical.com/pdf/fbi-hwfe.pdf

    And Massad Ayoob: http://www.backwoodshome.com/articles2/ayoob93.html

    Note his paragraph:
    "Combined models

Experience has taught police that what actually happens on the street is more important than what happens in the artificial environment of the laboratory. The 9mm round now acknowledged to work the best is a 124-grain to 127-grain high tech hollow point at a velocity of 1250 feet per second. NYPD, with some 30,000 officers carrying this type of ammo, the Speer Gold Dot +P 124-grain, is happy with the performance of its 9mm service pistols. Ditto the Orlando, Florida, Police Department, which uses the Winchester Ranger 127-grain +P+ in their standard issue 9mm SIGs"

I added the BOLD emphasis. I'm sold on the Speer 124-gr +P Gold Dots and use the short-barreled version in my Kahrs. I think the BONDED Remington 124-gr +P Golden Sabers are good, too.

And the FBI switched to the .40 S&W because the 9MM Luger was inadequate.

thought it was pretty interesting.... basically shows that they are all going to do the job pretty well.... so just find one you shoot well, and the gun likes to eat! (a good price never hurts either)
+1 A man with uncommon sense.

Far be it for me to disagree with Massad, but FMJ bullets don't punch neat clean round holes in human targets. FMJ bullets tumble.

I carried Federal HST 147gr in my CW9. I sold the CW9 to my dad though and now carry a PM45. I never found either of the Kahrs to be finicky with any brand of ammo.

HST and Gold Dot. Ranger T a close second. I had some hard primer issues with Corbon 9mm and stopped using them. Ranger T 127+p+ are great, but verboten in the Kahr. My PM45 doesn't feed Corbon DPX, doesn't like Ranger T, WWB h.p's and loves Gold Dots and HST.

Funny, I was LEO long ago, got back into shooting, asked a buddy still working what was good and he said Gold Dot, I searched for the ultimate, shot everything, read everything and, few years later, back to Gold Dot.
