Default MK40 Sight replacement. Williams FireSights from Kahr Website (Pics)

I have decided to replace the traditional "Dot the I" sights that were on my Kahr MK40 and replace them with the Willams Fire Sights ( Red ) that Kahr offers on their website. the price was 49.99+Shipping. Not bad (But they haven't arrived yet, so still unsure about the quality) They are in the mail and will be delivered Monday (8-20-2012). I was going to take the MK40 to my gunsmith who would charge me 30 dollars to change them out. That's no problem, but the big problem for me is that he would need the Pistol dropped off and would be anywhere from a few days till a week to get it back. Being impatient and also being that the Kahr is my primary carry gun, I decided to do it my self. I have heard horror stories about changing the sights on these Kahr's, but I have changed the sight on many other pistols so I thought i would give it a try.

So I field stripped and placed the slide in a vice wrapped in denim. Took a hammer and punch and started tapping the rear sight out, About 15 taps later and it was out with no problem at all. So I go to work on the front. And I'm having problems making a solid surface connection with the punch and the base of the front sight. So instead of marring up the slide, I decided to start tapping on the base of the front post. About three taps in and will nothing budging at all the front post broke off. I decided instead of knocking the sight out, I would just cut it in half. So I grabbed a triangular metal file and about 15 careful minutes later I successfully cut it and half and it fell right out. Now I'm ready to install the New Fire Sights. I'm adding a few pictures along the way so you can see the process. I only used 3 tools so far and will install with a wooden dowel rod and hammer very carefully not to marked up the new sights.

Here they are, Arrived around 12:30 and were installed about 12:45. Really easy to install. Going to add a little Loctite to hold them, but they have a nice tight fit as is. Quality is good, Not great, but I'm happy with them....for now.

nice job and IMO really makes that gun stand out. I have been considering them for my K9...

I may have found my problem. My hammer is much much larger than that.

It's not the size of the hammer that matters, it's how you swing it.

I'm writing that down so I can save it for future reference.

Flashy! How about a close up picture of the front sight? Pretty please.
It would be so nice if something made sense for a change.

I got Kahr factory NS on my MK40 Elite.
I normally prefer XS 24/7 Big Dots to three dot sights.
And have them on my two Sigs, Glock G27-357 and HK P30.
Still, I just like the three dot Kahr NS factory sights for some reason and don't want to change them.

    Can't explain it.
    Just how I feel.
