    Default 1911G finish

Anyone know anything about the black oxide finish on this weapon? Wondering about the corrosion/rust resistance. I have bruniton or melonite finishes on some of my guns which are excellent finishes. Have the oxide finish on the 1911 and on my Jericho 941.

I have the 1911G and the finish appears to be top-notch. Like any black oxide finish, it takes more care (I think) than melonite or other such finishes. I always store the gun with a light coat of gun oil on it and I wipe it often when it's been handled heavily. Keep it exposed to the air if there are frequent changes in temperature (can "sweat" or condense water if moved from cold to warm, more humid air) and if you live in humid conditions. Open the gun rug and let air get to it often. Enjoy your gun. Joe.

Thanks for the recommendations. I thought the extra care might be necessary. Been using Barricade Rust Protection Oil.

I have one too. It looks nice. I haven't carried it enough to really see how the finish will hold up.
It did show a bit of premature finish wear above the dust cover but the thing is such an excellent and accurate shooter I'm not changing a thing.

    Default 1911G Pics (I hope)

Here's mine, but I don't know how to embed the images in the post. You can follow the links below. Great shooter. The finger grooves are from Pearce that go under the grip panels. The grips are aftermarket and I think they look pretty slick on it. jrh
