CM9 recoil spring too stiff

Hey, guys. Anyone know if there are lighter recoil springs for the CM9? I decided to purchase one of these pistols for my wife, who doesn't prefer revolvers; however, she does have some degree of difficulty with racking the slides on most of my Glocks. I looked at my brother in law's new CW9 and the recoil spring is awfully stiff. If the CM9 is the same, it might be unpleasant for her.

I'm used to having aftermarket mod parts for Glocks and CZs and was wondering if there are any options for dropping in lighter recoil springs, etc for the CM series

The recoil springs are designed for these compact, close-toleranced Kahrs. Wolff makes the springs for Kahrs:

The CM9 and PM9 use the same springs and there are NO lower powered springs offered:

The springs take a set after a while... after the break-in and are somewhat less hard to rack, but don't count on a much easier rack.

Thanks wyntrout! I appreciate the quick response. I'm wondering if locking the pistol in the open position for an extended period of time would quicken the set on the recoil spring. Is this advisable or do you think it would even make a difference?

You can do that... I did that with "Wifey's" P380 for weeks and it seemed to not help a bit. I did put the 5-lb striker springs from Wolff in all 7 of my Kahrs, but that's only ONE pound less on the trigger pull and doesn't help much with the rack.

Using the proper racking procedure can really help, but you still need a certain amount of strength to rack a Kahr.

The Kahrs are just so compact and tight that they NEED the strong recoil springs to function.

Thanks again for getting back to me quickly. If this is the case, I may have to get her over to an LCR for CCW and tell her to get over her phobia of revolvers Then, I can simply acquire her new CM9 for myself!

Whoever uses an auto for self-defense should be able to rack it forcibly and clear malfunctions. It takes more than just barely being able to get ONE round into the chamber. Jams are most common when trying to chamber a round, especially if you wait until the last moment.

It's very important to make sure the top round is all the way to the rear in the magazine, especially if you carry +1, as you should. Top off the mag and make sure that top round is fully to the rear. That should give you AT LEAST TWO shots.

My advice would be to look elsewhere for your wife. She probably isn't going to like racking the CM9's slide, especially if she has trouble with the Glocks. But certainly try one out in a store before you commit to it. I think all of the pocket pistols are going to be a little on the stiff size because of their side, but Kahr is on the stiffest side of them.

I don't recall the M&P Shield being particularly stiff, you might look at it if you can find one. It's a little bigger than the CM9 though.

Welcome from Monroe, Washington. I can attest to things loosening up a bit during and after the break in period. Even my slide lock release is easier with the magazine out than it was prior to shooting it a bit. Good luck, I am searching for my wife as well.
