Default Seriously pondering selling a gun to buy a gun

I have been wanting a Savage .308 bolt gun and I am thinking seriously about selling my converted Saiga .223 to fund it.

    I need some input here!

Here is my deal. I have 3 AK's in 5.56mm, as well as AK's in other calibers, 7.62, 5.45. I have a SAM5 and SLR106Fr, as well as the converted Saiga.

    The Saiga:
1.The Saiga is professionally converted by PRC in California. They brought it from a sporter to a pistol grip gun, welded old holes, and refinished the gun.
    2. 16 inch threaded barrel 14X 1lh with muzzle device secured with crush washer.
    3. Danzag feed ramp.
    4. US made Surefire railed handguards that allow the barrel to free float.
    5. G2 trigger
    6. Hogue Grip
    7. Gun converted to use Izzy Orlite 35 rd magazines and SOME steel Izzy mags.
    8. Gun comes with 8 Orlite Izzy mags and 1 Izzy steel mag.

    The gun runs 100%

Curious about asking price as well.

Should I sell her to get the scoped Savage? If so, which .308 Savage?

Pics added. optics would not be included.

Does it have to be .308? I was thinking same thing and guy at gun shop suggested to me a 30.06, he said ammo easier to get and makes gun perhaps more versatile. I went with a 30.06.

A better choice would be a .270. Great round and I have never, in two of the last ammo panics, seen the shelves bare of .270. However,

I already have an FAL in .308. I reload .308. I have tons of brass for .308. I have 800 Sierra bullets for loading that some idiot at a garage sale sold me for $3 per hundred. .308 it is gonna be.

Thanks for the suggestion though. 30-06 is a nice round.

You have 3 AK's? I'm 66 and have only owned a gun for five months now. I never thought I would ever want an AK until I watched a video on one of those semi-secret build shops in CA. Then I thought ... wow, that would be cool. But I live in CT, so owning an AK is no longer an option ... at least not legally ... and no, don't even go there. Regardless of what the world might think of ministers, if we aren't men of integrity, then why bother.

You get the fun of asking questions I can't even imagine ... just saying.

I think the number is 8 AK's. I live in a free state for now. I most likely would have less guns, but I came from a unfree state.

Just for grins, what is something like that worth sans optics.

I've been a 30-06 man for as long as I been a man but my son went 308 with a couple high quality rifles and I want a Ruger Scout which is 308 but I've had a hankering for a Savage myself, they have several models.
I forsee some sort of 308 in my future since I'll probably end up loading for the son, might as well load for myself too.

Course I don't have any AK's or their variants and that's kind of been a lingering want moving up and down on the priority list which varies in itself from very very long, to I have enough. Then of course reality shines through and I realize one can never have enough.

I better go back and watch the video, I have no idea what a brown acid trip is like, or any other color acid trip for that matter.

I am not sure of the value at this moment. It is a very accurate and fun gun. the barrel diameter is larger than any other AK I own, including those in 7.62.

I like the 30.06, but for some reason I don't have one. They are super versatile from light loads for varmint and antelope to heavier loads for the likes of elk.

That versatility does translate fairly well to the .308 though. It just slightly reduces the maximum range to take game compared to a 30.06 and I would probably stay at 180grs or less for bullet weight. That said, I would not hesitate to hunt anything in the lower 48 with the .308.

I picked up a ruger a little while ago in .308 for those times when I want a little less gun than the .338 win mag I normally hunt with. The .308 is certainly a lot more fun to benchrest at the range and a little cheaper to shoot since it uses less powder (15-25grs less per round) than the .338.

While .308 would work well on many species in Alaska, I think I'll continue taking the .338 over the .308 for any future treks up there. Quite often there is too much cover around to lose the game in so you gotta get them to drop as fast as possible or stand a chance on losing them.
