Thread: Kahr CW45 feeding malfunction

    Default Kahr CW45 feeding malfunction

My new CW45 is past the break in (which my other three Kahr's did not need) and I am experiencing the occasional failure to feed the first round from the magazine. I have two mags and both have done this. On the range my "protocol" is to clear a malfunction quickly and get the gun running again in case it ever happens in a time of need.

The first round seems to miss the chamber and the nose of the bullet lodges against the top of the barrel hood.

Any ideas? Or should I contact Kahr?

It doesn't happen every time. I use the slide release. Ball ammo. Gun runs 100% once you get the first one chambered.

I have thought about loading only five in the mag?

    Thanks all!

Check your followers, and mag springs. Some people stretch out their springs a tad. You can also smooth out your mag lips at the top. Check feed ramp. Make sure that your first bullet sits all the way back in the mag.

If it's always the first round and it's not doing it during live fire I would think it's a magazine issue, maybe order a 1911 magazine for it and see if it malfunctions with that too?

Metalform & Act MaG officers mags would not function at all. Just submitted an online RA request.

    clayflingythingy,
How does the bevel on the slide's feed/stripper rail look?

I had that problem with my P40. I had to increase the clearance of the extractor to the breech face by radiusing the surfaces of the extractor that come in contact with the cartridge rim. Unload and remove the slide to check that the cartridge rim slides up smoothly between the extractor and the breech face.

Check the bevel at bottom of breechface. If first round is getting nosed it could be that

Matt from Kahr called today. My frame is bad so Kahr is sending a new gun to my FFL.

Kahr replaced the frame and installed the old top end. I will go shooting tomorrow and find out if this fixes the FTF.

Shot off a box of ammo last nite with no problems. It may just be good to go.
