I don't know how good your eyes are, but mine have trouble picking up red, unless I'm in really bright conditions. I have a optic red on my 1911, and I will probably change it out.

I have both red and green on revolvers both with gutter rear sights. I like them both but I pick up the red better. Tried the same on a semi auto (with a blacked out rear sight) and that combo wasn't as successful for me. I think bbone might be right...different eyes will see them differently.

From my bowhunting experience and for what it is worth...

In waxing light I'd see my green pin, then my amber pin and last my red pin. In waning light, as you might expect, my red, then amber and finally green pin would fade out of sight due to the low/diminished light. So for me it would be a green Hi Vis front sight. Oh, my 50 cal. PA Hunter (sidelock BP) has a red fiber optic front sight and a green rear sight and once again I'll loose the red ~10 minutes before the green entirely fades out of sight.

I put a dot of fluorescent orange on the front sights of my CM9 and P380. Easy to see, easy to pick up. I dipped the end of a toothpick in the paint and let it settle into the sight dimple. Works a treat and easily re-done if needed.
