Default Nicks On Base Spent Cases From Extractor

I just tried out my new 1927a1 at the range yesterday and it worked great with NO problems.
I did notice when I checked some of my spent cases that all have small nick on the base rim of the spent brass. A few nicks where large enough that a small piece of brass protruded from the nick and would not insert into the shell holder when reloading it. These are Federal cases.
Is this normal with the type extractor in this gun, because my 1911 doesn't leave nicks in the brass this large?

I was at the range yesterday and all the spent brass looked good after shooting. I suppose there may have been a rough edge on the extractor the other week that left some nicks on the spent brass.
