I just dropped At&T U-Verse for Comcast Infinity... er, I guess that I should say they dropped ME! Last Wednesday I decided to call AT&T and give them a chance to keep me... offered less for less... I needed more bandwidth to get what they had promised me and was really wanting to get Xfinity. The woman I talked to asked pointedly if I want to cancel that day and I said no, Monday... today is the last day of the billing period. I asked about the bill and she said just pay it and I would get my money back in about 4 weeks! I said why should I have to pay the bill and you keep my money for 4 weeks? She said fine, just wait for the final bill and pay that. I said great. We hung up and Wifey said the TV wasn't working. I checked the dial tone... gone. The Internet lasted a bit longer. Nice!
We had Xfinity two days later... love the X1 remotes. No landline and 3 connections... two X1 type and one HD for the bedroom... Wifey never watches recorded stuff. I have cable and HDMI cables running from my computer room to the dining room, so I hooked up the TV in the DR and can just take the remote in there for full capability, so we essentially have 4 TV's with HD.
We will have to learn the new channels, but the X1 remotes allow voice control and searching... fantastic. My AT&T bill had jumped from just over $200 to over $280 after the 2-year commitment. Our new bill is going to be $150 and change. We won't miss the landline, we have two cell phones and they are connected to our home cordless phone system by Bluetooth. We won't miss the wrong numbers , charity, and telemarketing calls!
I got the 75 Gbps speed and it tested over 85Gbps. We can record 6 and watch another HD stream at the same time. We could never get the 4 we were supposed to have with AT&T. 18Gbps with it was not enough bandwidth for what they promised. Plus we have all kinds of On-Demand capability.
I wanted to get rid of everything but Internet and use over the air and Roku, etc., but we are so used to just choosing a channel and I don't think Wifey would be happy trying to stream stuff.
The only thing I can't do is FAX and we never used that much anyhow. I know there are ways to do that online, but email with attachments usually work better, anyhow.
Oh, AT&T had only 720P resolution and Comcast has 1080P.
I've been wanting to share my experience. I still have a lot of work to do, changing all of my email and phone numbers with businesses and friends and family.
