Default To magna port or to sell?

I have a CW40 that I am considering to sell or trade to get a cw9. I would like to keep it if I could get the recoil tamed. I see magna porting is $145. So is it worth it? Does it really tame the cw40?

I magna ported my K40, it knocked the edge off but it still has considerable muzzle flip. It looks good, they do a great job but personally I don't think it's enough.
I know others here love the 40 and I do also but prefer mid to full size 40's. You CW may benefit more from magna porting, I hate to steer ya towards a wrong choice.

My K40 mostly lives in the safe, I went to a PM45. To me it's not so much recoil but muzzle flip.

I'm sure others will be along with multiple directions and opinions and that's good for you. Digest them, make a pro and con list and move forward. Maybe keep the CW40, get the 9 and see how it shakes out.

I have a Mag-na-ported P40 that I bought as is, but I don't really shoot it as well as my ported Glock 23C. I have a cobbled up set of sights... front is XS Big Dot and rear is Two-Dot Trijicon... not matched, but OK for close shooting. I was trying to approximate the HD Night Sights by Trijicon.

There is another choice... a Kahr ported barrel:

    4.0" Ported Barrel (P40 & CW40) (PTBRL40P)

Compensator for reduced recoil. Fits Kahr P40 and CW40. May require fitting.

****NOTE: These barrels will not fit older framed models that have not been updated. This update service is available through the service department at a cost of $190 + $25 s&h....If you are unsure of the age of your pistol, or wish to have this service performed, please contact the service department.
    Qty: $129.99 MSRP: $154.99

I bought one for my P9 and it seems not quite as effective as the Mag-na-porting, but it gives me a bit more barrel length and shoots well.

The flash is thrown forward and up, so it's not as bright as the Mag-na-ported ones.

One freeze frame from the right:

My P40 "blog" is kind of long, but lots of freeze frames of the flash from Mag-na-porting with various kinds of ammo:

    Bright one:

Porting an autoloader is less effective for felt recoil, compared to a ported revolver. Helps lots with flip though.

My main concern is the amount of flip.

Sell the forty, buy a nine and don't look back. Cheaper to feed, easier to handle and just as deadly.

40 is a great round, but there's a reason 9mm is so popular. It's even more effective because one can shoot it better.

People like me, who shoot .40 cal on a regular basis will tell you hogwash, as far as being more difficult to shoot than 9mm. Some people have real difficulty with recoil, others not so much. That "flip" helps me get the firearm back on plane for another shot. If you ever get a chance, shoot .40 out of an H&K. You'll know what I'm talking about.
