Then pulls his K9 out of an ankle holster...
The K9 gets promoted to his primary handgun for the rest of the movie.

What's really great is that Samuel L. Jackson is not one of those typical Hollywood hypocrites who rake in cash by starring in shoot-'em-up films and then supports gun control... he is pro gun (or at least not anti-gun).
