    Default AR-550 Body Armor

Dang, I've been looking for body armor at a decent price and just couldn't afford anything. I got an email from GovX with the lowest price I've seen and it's the AR-550 Level III+ plates... carrier and all 4 plates for $199.99... and shipping was only $7.95. My Black Friday shoping for the day is done, Wifey wasn't happy, though. It was only available in Tan, OD Green, and Wolf Grey, so I went with the grey, though the green would have matched my German Kevlar helmet. In case anyone is interested:

Having worn it professionally, I years ago thought about purchasing my own LW body armor for personal use. Never followed through. At this point I'm old enough to be in who the hell cares anyway territory.

First I've become a curmudgeon and now I'm also in the who the hell cares anyway territory.

I have access to vest, have a couple assigned to me, required when at the range where I rarely go anymore and I keep on in the van.

Sadly they are inventoried and kept track of even after expiration and they are totally against letting them out. I've tried a few times to get one for people and I'd have better luck getting them a department gun than a vest.

It was brilliant of the manufacturers to create expiration dates so departments have to buy new ones every so many years. Good for business.
Course most are ready for a new one after a few years, they are bloody warm to wear all the time.
I don't think they actually expire myself but they have that on lots of stuff. Taser cartridges etc. Doubt they would ever expire but good for business.

The steel plates won't expire, but the rig probably weighs 27 pounds. I don't anticipate wearing it, but I don't have a "bunker" and if the SHTF, something is better than my tee-shirt or skin.

You can get used IIIa LE vests for ~$250 and new for ~$400.
I've got a NIB Bianchi IIIa LE vest hanging in my closet - LOL!.
I think those were a limited contract overrun deal thingy.
It's Kevlar soft body armor without the rifle plates.
But fully wraps around my torso.
