Thread: At what point do you need to get the slide refinished?

Default At what point do you need to get the slide refinished?

My PM9 with black slide is starting to show a lot of wear. There are spots where the finish has worn off and the inside of the slide is starting to look ugly. The gun still runs fine, so is refinishing necessary? I assume that if yes it would need to go back to Kahr?

The little guy has about 2,000-3,000 rounds through it and is still going strong.

    Thanks

I have a 1911 that I carried for over a decade, almost all the blue is gone. I never had it refinished, I just keep it lightly oiled to prevent rust. Runs like a sewing machine. As long as you keep you PM9 from rusting, I would not worry about the looks.

I doubt Kahr would refinish the slide, probably just replace it if you wanted. (not for free).

There are lots of places that could refinish if you feel the need. Reblue or cerakote, or other finishes.

I don't mind character wear myself but I do like to keep my guns looking nice. Kind of a personal choice, long as it's running good, there's no immediate issue.

If you want a showpiece, keep it in the safe! Honest wear is a badge of honor and should be admired! Just my not so humble opinion!

Actually surprised it shows that much wear after only 2-3 thousand rounds.

It could very well have more since I bought it used. The holster wear is the most prominent, so I can live with it.

Surprised as well. My Black Diamond PM9, in EDC rotation since new, shows zero holster wear after nine years.

Perhaps, the OP's gun does not have the Black Diamond finish. It could be the prior owner (owners?)had the slide finished with something less durable.
