    Default Dealing with frustration

I've been working on a couple of projects of late that have been frustrating (to say the least). One involved springs flying into an alternative dimension and the other an issue that had me and Jethro stumped.

After an exhaustive, but futile search for the missing springs, new springs were ordered. While waiting for them to come in, I decided to move on to a Uberti Stallion that was giving light strikes. Everything, except the hammer, looked good. The hammer had a divot in it's face where it was striking the frame mounted firing pin. Surely hitting that hard would touch off a .22LR cartridge ....could the hammer be too soft. I pondered that for a bit and decided to order a new firing pin, firing pin spring, and an extra power hammer spring that I see Taylor has listed for the Stallion. A new hammer is costly, so I decide to forgo that for the moment. My thought here is to smooth the hammer face by peening material into the divot, filing as needed, and hope the peening work hardens the hammer (if it is too soft). The wait for all the parts is frustrating.

The replacements for the missing springs come in first and that project is soon completed. CGW Pro kit installed in my Phantom, check.

The Taylor parts arrive. I can't see a bit of difference between the new firing pin and spring and the old ones. Still, I swap them out and stick in the heavier hammer spring. Still no joy, light strikes on about 3-4 out of 10 in the cylinder. I try cutting a coil off the firing pin spring, nope. Turn the firing pin so it protrudes more, nope. It's really beginning to frustrate me, so I need to step away from the bench and get my mind right.

I find it helps to check out the work of folk that know what they are about. An inspiration is what I needed. Fortunately, I have Hamilton Bowen's website bookmarked and a little time there has me back on track. If you have never visited the site, I invite to please do so:

Back at it, I finally think to find out exactly why the firing pin is gouging the hammer. I mean it is spring loaded and hitting brass to boot, even a soft hammer might be able to handle that. Duh, turns out that both firing pins are too long where the hammer hits them. When hit, the firing pin bottoms out on the case, leaving it's butt end proud of the frame which causes it to dimple the hammer. I shorten a pin so that it is just flush with the frame when sitting on an already hit case rim and things look promising. For good measure, I also reduce the diameter of the front of the firing pin so that it is not hitting the very edge of the rim (as much) as there is no primer juice out that far.

(BTW, the above photo is from a fix I did on a CZ75 Kadet that had light strikes. The Uberti has a round firing pin.)

To my delight, all 10 pills go BOOM when their name is called and this continues for several more cylinders of test firing. I'm calling this one good as well

Not much to see, but here's my Phantom with the CGW Pro Package installed(you can see the new trigger and hammer). I also stuck a DPM recoil system in it as that comes highly recommended by AIRret (thanks MB!)

    The Stallion

    Regards,
    Greg

Good fix on the Uberti. I like the trigger on the Phantom. I put that shape trigger on my Rami and really like it. I intend to one day put it on my SP-01 and P-01 too but just haven’t got to it yet.

I like their floating trigger pins. Easy to install too. The floating pin for the Rami isn’t as long as I think it should be (based on how the one I put in my CZ clone looks) but it works so I guess I can’t complain.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

I find myself with a perverse sense of satisfaction hearing of Greg being frustrated. I feel kind of bad about it but it sort of proves that he really is human similar but undoubtedly superior to most mortal excepting of course Harrylee who is in the same league.
I personally don't feel qualified to carry his tool box although it's a job I'd gladly take on just to watch him work.

On the subject of CZ's I had a pistol transfer come through for a CZ75 Cold War Commemorative, so I googled it to see what it looks like.
I'm not nuts about the additional markings but I love the hammer and the round trigger guard. I guess there's a retro model that is the same thing basically without the cycles and russian markings.
Someday I'll have a CZ so I can hang out with the cool kids too.

Thanks! I'm with you on the shape of that trigger. The CGW trigger pin is definitely an improvement over the OEM pin. FWIW, the pin for the new Phantom is the same as the pin for Canik clones.

LOL. I'm glad somebody got some satisfaction out of it
I'm definitely mortal and still cursing the god of flying springs. You are more than welcome to come share the work

ARGGGGG...... thats a good price. If I hadn’t fell prey to a Walther PPS M2 for $304 out the door right before Christmas I’d have to add that one.

A result of this madness I have is now I have to buy me some more secure storage.

That does seem to be a great price. I recall you having a Phantom with some nice grips, that must have been a steel or alloy version? But also at least double the money of this one.
I've been looking pretty hard at the Canik with the MOS cut out. Would like to try the red dot set up at some point.
A sgt at work has one and says it's the most accurate hand gun he owns and loves it with or without the red dot.
I hate to mention this in public but I'm even considering another Glock 19 MOS to try. I love how they flared the mag well and added front serrations and stuff. Still I long to have a CZ so AIRRet might like me better and I could fit in too.

That is a great price. I have the SP01 Tactical already. But, I'm not getting any younger, and maybe the lighter weight of the Phantom...

That would be my CZ 75 SP-01. It's similar, but has a steel frame with thumb safety:

The CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical would be a closer in function the CZ 75 SP-01 Phantom as it also has a decocker instead of a thumb safety.

You could just jump to the head of the class

Even more tempting as I think I would prefer a decocker over a safety. Pondering. I never been head of the class before.

I'd sure look mighty fine in AIRret eyes huh. I can near see em sparkling as I type. Course I'd have to be a good shot or all bets are off.
