Thread: PM9 recoil spring guide end diameter?

Default PM9 recoil spring guide end diameter?

The Kahr parts shop said I needed a Gen 1 because my slide has the blunt nose. It is quite a bit narrower than the one in the gun on the end that butts up against the bottom of the barrel. Any idea if this makes a difference? For now I’ve just slipped on the new big spring and am using the old plunger.

As I recall the spring on the new style is just a bit longer and doesn't work in the blunt nose version. I don't remember hearing anything about a different guide rod.

If you can get the spring on and assembled and it will lock back, you should be good to go.

If my memory is correct, there were three different guide rods over the existence of the PM9.

    Type 1 = 3/8" rear flange and a 13 coil spring

    Type 2 = 1/2" rear flange and a 13 coil spring

    Type 3 = 1/2" rear flange and a 15 coil spring.

    Thanks for the diagram.

So if I have a gun that had a type 2 assembly installed can I safely use a type 1?

    Don't think so.

I ordered a Type 2 from Kahr, and they sent me a Type 3.

I clipped 2 coils off the outer spring, and it works fine. Without cutting the 15 coil spring down, the slide wouldn't lock back, because there just wasn't enough real estate to fit the fully compressed spring.
