Default My P365 has been kicked out of the carry rotation

I really like my P365, but the other day I had the slide's back plate slide down and prevent the gun from going into battery. Fortunately, it didn't come all the way off or I might have lost some parts.

I thought maybe I didn't get it all the way back in place the last time I cleaned the slide, but decided to give the web a look. It reads as if this has been enough of a problem that there is a redesigned plastic spring cup/guide that will make this less likely to happen.

So, until I can get my hands on one of these cups/guides (probably will have to buy a recoil spring assembly), the P365 will not see any carry on my behalf.

Al, any chance you will come to the rescue with a metal/cup/guide or redesigned back plate? Heck, even a plastic one would be nice as it seems to be hit or miss on finding the redesigned part.

    Regards,
    Greg

Any idea how many rounds you’ve ran through it. And do you think it’s a wear issue or just not designed as it could have been?
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

As you said, they redesigned the striker assembly to fix this problem. My P365, made in August 2019 has the new striker assembly which, besides minimizing drag on the striker, also sits more firmly against the back plate and has to be pushed to the side and down if you want to remove the back plate.

From my reading on the Sig Talk forum this is a design problem.

I'd say north of 500 rounds through it.

I'm leaning towards a design issue. The back plate is held in place by the cup/sleeve of the striker assembly. Spring pressure pushes the cup/sleeve against the plate and under a shallow lip/ledge at the top of the plate.

It appears to me that the ledge is just too shallow. I guess wear could be a contributing factor just because the lip/ledge on the back plate is so shallow that any rounding on the edge of the cup/sleeve might facilitate the plate sliding off.

SIG's fix looks pretty good to me. They redesigned the cup/sleeve. The old sleeve just pressed against the bottom of the back plate.

In addition to pressing against the back plate, the redesigned cup/sleeve protrudes underneath a bottom edge of the back plate to further prevent it from sliding down.

Note* the gent in the photo directly above is pushing the cup/sleeve slightly askew as he demonstrates how he takes the back plate off.

I tend to agree that it is a design issue.
My issue is finding the redesigned part.

Greg - This place is pretty good at stocking the latest iteration of the 365 striker.

    https://osagecountyguns.com/

It's also got the beveled striker tip that eliminates primer drag.

Greg - as always, great explanation and illustration of the problem and the fix.

Shouldn't Sig provide one free of charge?

Good info there Greg. Mine is an early version. March of whatever year it was released (I can’t remember the year.) I have 820 rounds through mine and it doesn’t get carried too much as for a while I’ve been carrying the Sig P938. Even though I’ve never had a problem with my P365 I have this little annoying voice in my head that questions it failing at a bad moment. I’m probably just paranoid. I’ve never had that voice with my CM9, P938, CT9, my CZ’s.

I do have to admit though the ones that I have full 100% confidence in are my 2 P30 HK’s but their tolerances are not as tight and they are sprung to go into battery and ignite a primer every time. But they are not as small for carry either.

I have one from March 2018 and now with 7000 rounds fired, I have only changed the RSA. I checked my gun and moving the backplate took a a fair amount of pressure on my part. I grabbed my second gun (Aug 2018) and the plate is seated firmly.
At this point in time, I am confident in carrying either of these two guns.
If I ever get to the point where failure of any model semi becomes a concern, I will opt for my Kimber K6s revolver.

    Update:
I found that you can buy the improved sleeve, but the only place I found it was out of them.

However, the same place had striker assemblies in stock. As I could not find them anywhere else (including SIG), I decided to take a chance that these would have the improved sleeve. It shipped very quickly.

To my delight, the assembly had the new sleeve...

...and the improved tip (slanted) that minimizes striker drag/primer smear.

    The install went smoothly.

    It's back and I'm a happy camper

    Regards,
    Greg
