Need break-in help for Galco holster.

I received a Galco thumb break with the new-to-me K9. However, it is hard as a rock! I guess it's 25 years old and never been used. How do I break it in and loosen it up for belt use?

Thanks man. I watched the video and just followed those directions. I'll let the weapon sit in the holster that way until tomorrow.

Treat it with some leather conditioner. let it sit for a bit, and then maul it in your hands, bending it in all directions, gently. It will soften right up.

Great, I may need to do that as I have it on right now and it's a real pain getting it onto my belt. I think it rides a bit higher than I would like too.

Problem is, not many holster makers make a thumb break anymore.

Thumb breaks are basically for poor fitting holsters. If the gun doesn't fit the gun snugly without a thumb break I got little use for it. Now a duty rig is another situation and now days is far more sophisticated that a thumb break.

I use Draw-EZ from Galco. They also sell a "leather lotion" product. Draw-EZ works well, used it for many years. I apply, let it absorb well over a couple days, then holster the gun and let it alone for a day or so.

At the moment the gun is working in the holster pretty well, it's getting the holster onto the belt that is the big problem. SMH.

The Mitch Rosen that came with my CW 45 (both used) fits the K9, but it's a bit loose. I might try a Mitch Rosen thumb break but I'll call the original owner of my Mitch Rosen holster and see what that guy did to break in the holster so well. I know he carried that weapon for years in that holster. Maybe just daily use?

I have modified many a leather holster to fit better using some hot water and hair dryer. Just go easy and tweak it a little at a time.

I've retired it. It's just too hard to get it onto my belt. Next holster looks to be a Mitch Rosen Express Line.
