Default Different barrel length for PM9

    Hello All,
    I'm new to this forum.

I recently purchased two used PM9 pistols. I was surprised to notice that one pistol had a slide and barrel that was about 0.1 inches longer than the other pistol.

3.065" vs 2.065" muzzle to breech block

    5.450" vs 5.340" slide length

Can anyone tell me the history behind these two lengths?

    Thanks

Side by side pictures would be interesting to see.

Is one kind of flat nosed and the other tapered at the front?

Yes. The pistol on the right is the longer one.

The one on the right is a newer model with the tapered nose. It is slightly longer. Takes a different recoil spring.
The other one we call the blunt nose and is preferred by many, probably only because it was first. The taper would probably help in holstering a bit.
Both good guns, you got one of each.

    Colonel Bawanna,
Thanks for the information. Do you have any idea why Kahr changed the design?

That's a question that has been asked a 1000 times. Never heard a definitive answer. Many were unhappy with the change. It adds a bit of confusion when replace that recoil spring. And why they couldn't have did the taper but maintained the original length etc is still a mystery.

In short I don't have a good answer for ya on this one.

When purchasing my pm9, I wasn’t aware of the blunt nose version. That is until joining Kahr talk.

I much prefer the blunt-nose look, but figured they must've had good, functional reasons to "upgrade" it, so bought the newer style.

I don't know if I have the original recoil springs, but the two that I have appear to be identical. However, the recoil spring guide rods are different -- one being longer than the other.
