My beloved T9 had a hiccup today

I fired oh maybe 75-100 rounds today, the gun was clean when I started. S&B, Federal, Hornady, mostly FMJ. Late in the session there was a failure to feed, a FMJ missed the chamber and prevented the slide from closing. I cleared it and shot about 30 more rounds without incident.

I’m trying to diagnose it. It’s the only failure this T9 has had since I bought it used. I think it was the 2nd round in the mag.

Weak recoil spring, didn’t pull the slide hard enough to smoothly feed? Magazine issue? I didn’t take note of which mag it was. Weak mag spring?

I can’t get over how accurate this gun is for me. Plate rack at 15 yards, I downed 25 of 26. I’ve never been that good before.

Trying to understand what occurred without pictures. You're saying that the nose of the round hit the bottom of the feed ramp? Or the slide just didn't pick up the round at all and it stayed in the magazine? Anytime I've seen a round that hits the bottom of the feed ramp the round is too long, especially when it's the 2nd round in the magazine rather than the 1st.

The round stripped off the mag, but it went almost vertical, like stovepiping an unfired round when feeding.

I’ve had problems with S&B 9mm before, mostly primers not going off, but I don’t know for sure that was the brand in question.

Dirty firearm? How many miles on the recoil springs? New gun, used gun? If it was a weak mag spring, you'd think it would have happened more than once. You could just clean it up, clean and lube the mags, go shoot again, and eliminate the ammo in question. See what happens.

With only one incident, it's difficult to diagnose. I always make sure the rounds are loaded tight to the back of the magazine. I wonder if it's possible the first round drug the second round forward. They always do but perhaps in this case it was too much? Maybe a rough case, hard to say.
I've never replaced a magazine spring in my life and never had an issue. I'm not to dedicated to replacing recoil springs for that matter. I'd shoot more and see if it happens again.

I cleaned it today. It wasn't that dirty overall, but the feed ramp, barrel hood, and barrel were pretty dirty. So it could have been that, or small flakes of brass interfering with smooth feeding.

Clean it up, lube it and continue shooting.
Any FTF is certainly unsettling.
But as previously stated, if it's not repeatable it's hard to fix.
No gun is really 100% reliable.
Rare malfunctions may be out of spec ammo.

A previously cleaned pistol shouldn't fail due to being "dirty" after so few rounds. Modern pistols should function after thousands of rounds between cleanings, and many do. Dirt probably not the problem.

If this is a used gun with the same recoil spring as when you bought it, I'd change it. Simple, quick and cheap maintenance.

My T mags are the ones that broke followers on me. Have you checked your followers?

I can empathize. It sucks having a trusted gun go astray. My K9 gave that "let me down" feeling when it broke. We're back on good terms again these days.

Had a stovepipe yesterday. Ordered a new recoil spring. Went back to carrying a revolver.

New recoil spring installed, another stovepipe. I fired about 75 rounds of WWB and one time had a definite limp wrist when shooting left handed (stovepipe), then later with a firm two-handed grip, another stovepipe.
