    Default 22 handgun

I am looking to get another 22 handgun. I have narrowed it down to either a Smith and Wesson Model 63 or a Ruger 22/45. They are both priced similar.

The easiest answer is to check paint supply for green and then get both.
I have the 22/45 although mine does not have the threaded barrel which is a plus if you know somebody with a suppressor. It's still a little balky and I haven't played with it enough to sort it out. I like it, feels good in hand. I need to spend more time with it, I have a few other 22's that I always seem to grab first. Always want to take them all but that can't happen. Need a place with a back porch I can shoot off.

Absolutely nothing against the revolver, looks sweet, not sure it would see as much range time unless your a revolver guy. That being said I was always a revolver guy but I lean towards cowboy revolvers.

    Bingo.

I want a new 22 pistol but I just picked up an AR lower today to build an AR pistol that I’ve had parts for since 2021. Need to get me one of those foam buffer tube covers though since we can’t have braces any longer.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

I had a 63 just like that and didn’t love it. It felt small in my hand, and the front sight was way too bright. Fixable stuff, I know, but it just didn’t excite me like I hoped.

The Rugers are good, my favorite is an SP101 .22

I have an SP101 .22 for the wife to shoot mostly. Was gonna get the same in 38 so she could practice with the 22. But thought it was too heavy, so ended up with a Smith 638. I get along fine with the shrouded hammer but it's easy to have the hammer get away. I tell the wife never to single action it. Wish now I'd gotten one with an exposed hammer. Can't hit well double action.

You can always slick up the triggers and make them easier to shoot in DA................

    Picked up a MK4 22/45 & love it. The one-button takedown is a dream.

That one button takedown is awesome. Compared to holding your mouth right, jiggling, and standing on your head for the earlier models. Everytime I do it, it's a new learning experience.

As much as I'd like to have a Ruger SP-101 in 22 lr to compliment my all time favorite SP-101 357 mag, if it could only be one .22 handgun the Ruger 22/45 - my all time favorite. I had a slight chance of getting my hands on the SP-101 in 22 lr several years ago when doing a land survey for a close buddy but he backed out at the last minute and paid me in cash instead. I still want the old model SP-101 but I totally satisfied with the old Mark II 22/45 (bull barrel target model). It's deadly accurate as most Ruger semi-autos are right out of the box.

I have a Mark II 22/45, bull barrel, and a SP-101 in .22. The 22/45 is more accurate, and has about a 2# trigger pull. I live in a small development (12 houses), 1 acre lots. I bought the SP101 so I could shoot .22 quite round at varmits in the back yard. Not enough power to cycle the Mark II. Plus trigger is substantially heavier, even single action is about 5-6 pounds. On the plus side, it's easier to police your brass with a revolver.

So...depends on what you plan on using it for.
