PM9 rust

Summers here in Florida can sweat you out big time. The problem is my mag release keeps rusting. I oil and a couple of days later it's back. The button even starts to stick. Does someone make a stainless button? or perhaps the spring behind the button? Anyone else had this problem?

the mag release spring is a one peace rod, even if it rusts, it should work the same. No one makes a stainless mag button, ur just gonna have to keep an eye on that area, probably any other non stainless object down your way is in harms way to. Now a easy solution would be to get the hell out of Florida and move up to the state that was part of the northern agression years ago. INDIANA.

Thanks, The humidity & heat here in the summer makes you start to sweat at about two steps outside the door. I've thought about moving a little further North when I retire.

I just found a product called Barricade rust preventer. This is good stuff, summers here in TX are no laughing matter, and this stuff has proven itself to me. Academy has it in spray cans, and my LGS has it in an oil bottle. Follow the directions, let it dry, then oil and grease lightly over the top. No more rust. In fact I used it on a blued steel snubbie, and have no problems carrying close to the body with it.

they say stainless can rust, as it has IRON in it make up. If u have that old rusty ass model 60 that certainly no one wants, I might be able to work up a $100 to taqke that butt ugly peace off ur hands.

I still have mine that I bought in 1970 for $160. but its lonbely and I am assuming your model 60 is a female, for my alpha version has never rusted, so I am just assuming!!!!!

Corrosion X or Boeshield might give you better protection. They are top rated for long-term rust protection. Eezox is also well respected.

I use them on my outboard motors in saltwater. Both leave a sticky waxy residue behind. Not sure that is good for small parts that have to move.

All ferrous materials rust, that includes all stainless steels. It should be spelled 'stain-less'.

I offer two solutions for you. First a holster that prevents sweat getting to the mag catch?

Or, buy an extra mag catch and send it to Armalloy (Google 'em) in Pa. They can hard chrome it and then it will never, ever rust.

Now that I've thought about it, I should send mine off to them and get it done. I've had Armalloy do work for me in the past and they're top notch.

Thanks, sounds like that may be a long term solution.

It is Birchwood Casey. I don't know about any other names it may have gone under, but there is a film left behind that is slick, and not waxy. Like I said, I like it a bunch, those others, when I find them around here may try them too.
