    Flip flops, actually!

My P40 without the O-ring bit my little pinky! The O-ring stopped that. That little gap could pinch... on the P40, but didn't even try the P9 without the O-ring. My carried spare mag is the "high capacity" regular plastic based one.

The only thing I really didn't like about my DLC black PM9 was the stainless magazine base which to me looked wrong....One day I was in my LGS and they had a "Thin Blue Line" PM9 with the blacked out mag and base so I gave the guy $20.00 and one of my 7 round magazines I never used in trade and now the pistol looks so much better....I wish Kahr would sell the black magazines but it seems they were only used on those limited edition TBL pistols and that one is the only one I've ever seen since......

I’m glad I passed on a P9 awhile back. After reading here all the issues such as the serial number tag, trigger pull not the same, magazines not being universal, magazines base plates hanging out 1/16”, pinching fingers, not being black. I’m getting a headache just thinking about the problems.

Unfortunately, I think these are general Kahr issues, not just P9 ones.
I have only 9mm Kahrs, so maybe it's different for the other calibers:
The steels are serialized on the frames, and all my polys have the dust cover serial tag - old models, I guess - but the grip serial wouldn't irk me.
The other points are same ol' Kahr for mine: they all have mag-plate gap; triggers break differently (but the pull weight feels consistent); low-round mags of course don't feed higher-round models (but high-round mags are universal fit in any/all of my 9mm).
    None of that peeves me.
As a friend said of his wife, "She's not perfect, but she's perfect for me".
But then again, I've never suffered baseplate pinch, mag mix-up, or aesthetic discomfort over the baseplate gap (The plastic baseplates are ugly, so I've switched to steel).
They all shoot great for me. *shrug* One man's treasure is another's . . . different brand selection. Nice to have a choice (California's hoplophobic attempts notwithstanding )

Wait.... what? Mags not universal? What's that about?

I have mags from the first year Kahrs hit the market, from an Elite 03, and a fairly recent P9. They all fit and run perfectly in all three guns.

As the OP stated 1911 officer 9mm magazines don’t work. Universal 9mm single stack mags.

Oh, I see. I never considered 1911 mags as universal for anything but the various 1911 clones. The fact that the grip of the 9mm Kahr is too small to allow the use of 1911 mags is not a flaw - it's a feature.

Don't get me wrong. The more I shoot my P9, the more I like it. Once I get 100% confident with it (me using it, not the gun per se) I think it will go to the top of my EDC list.

It's just hard to understand why a company that makes such a nice product ignores legitimate suggestions from the buying public regarding the mags.

I think it is because of the guns in question. Many people have posted here about gun stores having Kahr’s sit forever on the shelf, guys not getting their Kahr’s wanted by gun dealers for trade in, and many of our own experiences being able to buy Kahr’s dirt cheap. I do not think that Mr Moon sells enough to sink a lot of money into R&D like the big dawgs can/do. I love ‘em, as us here do, but those are the facts. They just don’t sell like the big brands. Innovation takes money and that money has to come from existing sales. There are tons of companies that make aftermarket parts to slap onto/into the big brands guns, but very few (Lakeline LLC, Galloway. M Carbo, NDZ) companies that make aftermarket parts specifically for Kahr’s, and they even limit their lines to just a few sku’s. Just no $ in it. Make those same parts for a big name gun and you’ll sell 10 x’s, or a thousand x’s as much.
