Default PM9 First Range Report. Almost flawless...

I took my brand new PM9 to the range today for its break in. I planned on shooting 225 rounds through it. It chambered every round in the magazine, but a few times it failed to lock the slide back on an empty mag. Not a big deal, but I would like to know why its doing it. The only other problem I had was on the second to last magazine (round 213) the floorplate flew off the mag and my spring was at my feet before I knew it. Anyone heard of these problems before?

Aside from that, it was perfect and exceded my expectations greatly. I have fired many different 9mm handguns, and this one put almost as big a smile on my face as my beloved Glock 19. I have a feeling it will replace my S&W 642 for strong side pocket carry very soon.

it justmight be that the recol springs have not taken it designed set yet. Did u shoot any defense ammo that is normally hotter than normal fmj over the counter ammo that most use for range fodder?/ This will tellu alot. It more than likely is jus the recoil springs not set yet and it could also be that u might have loosened ur grips a few times in those 225 runds which is alot of range time and a loose grip can cause failure to lock open. I would not lose any sleep over that, ,,it will correct itself. the flying floor plate, there is some fixes listed on the kahr tech section for that. some put a bigger dimple/dent in that inner floor pate, some also just crimp the grooves in the outter floor plate so that it goes on tighter. That wouldbe my preference. doesnt take much. nice range report. U might buy another flush fit 6 round mag for ur PM9 and have a spare around...

did u view the kahrt tech section and hit on the kahr lube chart??? It is a dandy and propper prepping of ur kahr has some helpful hints for some little picky things that might occur.

The most common reason that the slide would fail to lock back on the last round is the grip of the shooter, and since you only mention having the issue only a few times, I would tend to look to your grip as opposed to the slide stop spring. Depending on how you grip the PM, shooters can experience premature slide lock and/or failures to lock. I had the same issues as you when breaking in my PM, and after adjusting my grip, the problem disappeared. You can modify your grip to ensure that your thumbs are clear of the slide stop and that should clear things up. Hope this helps.

I had a feeling it could have been my grip. I may have been holding down the slide stop lever. Neither one of the problems I have will change my opinion on this weapon. I find it to be of excellent build quality. I have not shot any defense ammo out of it yet.

I did not mention that I fired this weapon dry. I tend to neglect my firearms, because my Glocks fire, no matter how dirty or dry they are. I wanted an honest, no bull$hit assessment of this gun, so I took it out of the box, and wiped away all the lubrication it came with, went to the range, and shot it. It did exactly what I wanted it to. If a gun has to be babied for it to operate, it is not for me and will be sold swiftly. This gun is awesome.

My next range trip will be to test out my carry ammo, which is probably gonna be Speer Gold Dot 124 +P Short Barrel. Any recommendations?

Gold Dots, HSTs, Winchester Rangers tend to get the most love around here.

Update.

Still haven't cleaned or lubed it, and put another 75 flawless rounds today. Still only FMJs because my defense ammo hasn't arrived yet. This gun is flat out awesome so far. I am trying to decide if I want to clean it or let it go until it can't take anymore. Suggestions?

Clean it and lube it. You don't want rough wear for breakin. You want it ti get smoother and smoother. JMO.

Unless I was doing some sort of torture test I would definitely clean it. And I am one to baby my guns rather than torture. As far as slide not locking back, may very well be grip. My CM 9 has done that exactly twice, both times when my wife was shooting it on two consecutive mags (she hasn't touched it since, her choice, not mine). I lover her to death, but she doesn't exactly know what a strong grip is, ya know?
