Default Question about NYPD K9 from a newb

I'm just breaking in my CM9, and liking it more each time I've had it to the range. I really like its size for carry, and my accuracy is getting better (I'm leaving the Glock G27 home until I get better dialed in with the CM9).

I'm thinking seriously of the K9 in all stainless and the price for the NYPD trade ins really is very good. Does the K9 have less flip and come back on target quicker because of the greater mass of the frame? I'm just now trying to double tap my targets and seeing how the G27 is slower to get that second shot compared to the CM9, and I'm wondering if the K9 might be even quicker.

Does the extra half inch of the K9 (over CM9) make it harder to conceal? I know the weight would pull down on my belt more. I got the CM9 after the G27 for it's better conceal-ability, and don't want to go much larger.

Is the NYPD trigger similar to the CM9 trigger?

Are the NYPD trade-ins stainless or ???

With the CM9 in hand, would the K9 be a nightstand queen or would it be more than that? Might it replace the CM9? Dimension in print just don't tell me the story, and I'm hoping y'all can share your experience before I possibly misspend on the NYPD K9 trade-in.

Thanks in advance!

You cannot mis-spend your hard earned dollars buying a K9.
It's definitely got less flip than a CM9. The extra mass of the SS frame absorbs the recoil so much better.
The trigger is buttery smooth and I can't tell the difference between my CM9 and the NYPD K9.
I use the K9 as my EDC. Yes the weight is a factor, but with a good belt and holster, it's definitely do-able. I carry IWB so the additional half inch doesn't matter, that part is buried anyway.
My CM9 sits in the nightstand most of the time. It makes an appearance if I wear shorts or whatever.
I shoot the K9 so much better than the CM9.
Many folks, me included report these guns come pretty gunked up. They clean up well with some TLC. Defintely figure on changing springs.
I hope this answers some of your concerns. In my opinion, you can't go wrong buying one.

That notch in the rail is supposed to be there

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
--Thomas Jefferson (1764).

not be a nightstand gun but it ain't gona be ur carry gun either. u own a cm9, just gonna be hard to go backwards for a carry peace. I have a NYPD K9 and live it but it is my home gun and range fun gun, nothign else. Yes they are stainless and the nypd triger is similar in pull and smoothness to ur cm9 but ur cm9 has a 3/8
" trigger travel and the nypd has a 1/2" trigger travel. I ccan't tell the difference vbur some can. U will shoot it better than ur cm9 IMO

For waist band carry the K9 should be a super nice gun to carry. A good rig is what makes the gun dissappear on ur side, If u like stell u outta love the K9.

PS Pay no attention to Tinman,he speaks with forked tongue

The K9 definitely belongs on the belt either OWB or IWB, and my feeling is if I'm going to wear the PM9 (or CM9 in your case) on my belt, then I might as well have the K9 there instead.

For me the PM9 (or CM9 in your case) is for pocket carry, albeit for big pockets, eg. cargo pants. It doesn't work so well in khakis or jeans pockets. That's what my Ruger LCP is for. Or when I can't carry at all, the Kel-tec P32. :-)

OK, so I'm not misguided in thinking this will be a used tool. From an auction site it appears that others may be buying and selling these at a small profit, or they spent too much for ffl and shipping. I just was concerned that they might be junkers, but no one here expressed buyers remorse so that's a good sign. It also appears that they hold their value pretty well.

Thanks for your input!

Zardoz... are you the world famous Zardoz? Real men do have a long pony tail, a red diaper with suspenders and boots up to their..., welcome to the forum.

Nothing to add to the other's answers other than the K9 and CM9 are similar but much different in overall feel, mainly weight and grip. Either one an improvement in CCW over the revolver shown above.

I don't see how you could misspend on a K9 myself... but then if you buy it for carry and find that the CM9 is better for your choice of carry then I can see that that would be misspent. However I find the K9 the perfect carry size for me.. and if I could swing it past the wife I would buy at least four of em.. I have three daughters and a son who I am sure would love to have them.

I'll thank or blame you all soon. Dirty NYCity K9 is heading my way.

I wonder if the local Federal plant has a seconds/outlet store? I should check.

I notice lots of you buy springs. Necessary or precaution? Dare I shoot with old springs?

Thanks all for your input

Changing springs is like getting an oil change on your car...keeps it runing smooth.

I think kahr says you should change springs every 2000 rounds or so, and since you won't know how many rounds have been sent through ur k9, its prob a good idea...
