Okay guys, I'm putting together a list of 1911s that are currently being built that are actually ready for AZSA use. I have discovered that many of our best known builders that have come out in the last decade or so, have many modern touches that would violate either the mechanical or 10 foot rules. So far, I have only found a few that will work and if you know of more, please list them here.
Rock Island, Auto Ordnance, Colt 1991 and 70 Series and Remington. All the rest i could find have beavertails, Commander style hammers, sloped or forward serrations, etc.

Are we referring to the American zoot shooters assoc. or the Azerbaijani students of america? Whichever, glad to see my remington made your list.

personally, and for the record, I am not in favor or whale tail 1911's

It works fine as Browning designed it. Not a purist, but it works!

I cut mine... shorten them to smaller than designed. What is not there, cannot bite you. Simple as that.

Control? All to hell... I can hit what I point the pistol at, and I can point the pistol at what I want to hit. Nuff said.

I'm not completely up to speed on the Zoot Shooting rules, but these might be worth a look;
Cimarron M1911 (http://www.cimarron-firearms.com/Tactical/1911.htm)
ATI HGA FX45 1911 (http://www.americantactical.us/939/detail.html)
Regent R100 (http://regentarms.com/products/models/r100.html)
American Classic "Classic Model" (http://www.americanclassic1911.com/classic-model.html)
Springfield Armory "GI" Model (http://www.google.com/search?q=Springfield+Armory+gi+model&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=hBK&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=JnTJT9TRD6bF2QXx073HBA&ved=0CGQQsAQ&biw=1280&bih=796) (as of last year, it may not be in production anymore, but there are a lot of them out there)
Darn, after I started listing them I remembered this:

Greg, that is PERFECT! Thanks a whole bunch. I couldn't find the SA one earlier, I hope they will resume production.

What is the 10 foot rule?

That means if looks okay from 10' it would be acceptable. For example, a S&W Model 27 will be legal as it was built back then but the Model 28 didn't actually arrive until too late. But the only difference is that the barrel rib on the Model 28 isn't checkered. You can't see this from 10' away, so it is a legal gun.

Sounds sorta like the 2am last call rule. If she's acceptable from 10' and it's 2am, it's a go.
:D

Which leads us to Coyote Ugly:
A situation encountered after a night of consuming alcohol whereby a person, usually male, wakes the next morning in a strange bed with a sexual partner from the previous evening who is completely physically undesirable (see ugly, nasty, two bagger) and sleeping on the man's arm. The hapless male would rather gnaw off his own arm than wake the woman and have to face the ills of his intoxicated choices the previous evening. Originating from a phenomena whereby a coyote captured in a jaw trap will chew off its own leg to escape certain death.

Has someone mentioned the Cimarron 1911 yet? It looks to have a M1911 frame.
