kahr CW9 updates! PIC HEAVY
Got some goodies in the mail! I haven't got my wollf 5# trigger yet so that will be next.

P9 slide stop- stainless, is a little thinner and shorter. Feels better on the thumb.
Stainless guide rod- heavier for added recoil reduction. Smoother and obviously better looking.
Trijicon night sight- Not plastic!! And it is a night sight.
Stainless mag plate- looks great and it won't break. Also shortens up grip a tad.

My only complaint is the night sight screw sticks up a tad and is rubbing barrel. I will take a small round file and fix that tomorrow at work. Not a deal break by any means.

I will be ordering 3 more base plates for the other 3 magazines. I'll shoot some tomorrow and report in on how everything does. I should receive my wolf spring soon, then I'll do a light shine job. Okay now with the pictures!

Yea, I will first thing. It is just touching a little. If need be I want will take the drill and make it seat deeper. Just from racking the slide it has polished it down.

I considered calling Kahr to complain, but I'll just take care of it.

That's a good plan.
We had a fella here that said he had Trijicon front sights break off twice on his CM9. I'm convinced it was because the screw didn't have proper clearance. My CW9's screw fit was worse that yours, so I modified the slide to get the clearance (wasn't an issue with my CW45 (http://kahrtalk.com/showpost.php?p=15666&postcount=1)).
Here's what I did with my CW9:

What mag bases are those?

If that metal magazine base pinches you, a neoprene plumbing O-ring 3/32" diameter and 3/4" inner diameter might help. I had to get some for my P40 and then put them on my P9, too, without testing for pinch.

In the bottom picture, the lowest magazine has a 1/8" O-ring which is too thick... interferes with magazine retention. I had to go back and get the next smaller size.

It's really bewildering to me that Kahr refuses to make a flat steel base for the CW45 magazines.

I noticed that the metal base plate for the 9mm/.40S&W is about the size needed for the .45's. It would even start on the magazine tube base retention lips. It's about 1/8" too short to cover the whole base and the lips of the base need to be spread a bit. I fiddled with that last night filing a bit and hammering a screwdriver into the slots to try to widen them a bit. I WAS able to worry the base on and pry it off and even stuff 6 rounds into the 5-round magazine... using no lock plate barely fits.

Along the way, I noticed that there was a TINY split on the upper rear of one side of the magazine feed lips. I then checked all of my magazines and found worse cracks on several more... 4 of my 7 mags being affected. I took pictures and fired off an email to Kahr Customer Service. I guess I might hear back from them Monday.

I have just enough mags left one for CC in the pistol and the 7-round extended grip for a carry reload/spare... and my 6-round extended grip for a spare at home. It pays to have a bunch of mags sometimes. I have the least amount of mags for my PM45, not counting the dozen plus I bought to try in the PM45. :D

Since the frame replacement in 2010 after the pistol destroyed most of my mags BIG TIME, I've probably on put 1,200 or so rounds through the pistol, if that many. Prior to the frame replacement, I had maybe 3,000 through the original with normal shooting and TESTING repairs! So this is not from high volume shooting and I only use standard pressure 230-gr bullets.

The SAGA continues... "Boomer"/"Franken-Boomer"!

Just few pix:

I want to thank the OP for this thread, it's VERY informative, and actually is making me more eager to purchase the CW9 I'm looking at.

I do have a question for the masses that may be covered elsewhere but I feel should remain in THIS thread;

What, if any, internal pieces are typically in need of polishing on Kahr Firearms? I do all work myself, and would like to know the opinions of current owners.

The pistols in my sig (soon to be updated) all had different needs, and benefited from different modifications to enhance their performance and reliability.

Thanks in advance.

ETA: after looking at it, I realized the black PM9 comes with a steel base and plate, not black. I emailed them to see if they can change the order for me--we'll see.

-----------------
I didn't see that flat mag set, so I ordered the standard flat mag and base-plate in black for the PM9...will it fit my K820 7rd cw9 mag?
You got this one:

I got these two parts $8.80 apiece:

038PM9BS Metal Magazine Base (038PM9BS)

I may be wrong but I think those are the ones that go on the CM series 6 round mags. They fit flush on those mags but hang down a bit on the 7 rounders for the CW9 and P9.

Ad-Healer... nice documentary on the evolution of your CW9. My wife has a CW9 as well,... had the full set of Trijicons installed (SUPER NICE!) Also, I just received my SS guide rod for the CW9 from Steve Bedair Guide Rods. I am curious to see if the heavier guide rod reduces the recoil (which is not too bad anyway).

Your post gave me the idea to try the flat base plates... great for slightly shortening the overall grip length.

Thanks again for a great post... really helps understand what mods can be done for Kahr pistols.

yep, i agree...looks great though! and definitely not going to fall apart. seems to me if you're going to that extent of a setup, make it a two mag holder. but to each his own. i like my $8 nylon knife case for my extra mag.

In my opinion on a CW9, nothing needs polishing, well mine didn't need anything. I did polish the feed lips on my CM9 magazine but it probably didn't need it. It was just a bit sharp.

I don't believe the stainless guide rod from Bedair will be any heavier than the stock steel one. If it is, it will be negligible. If you want to reduce felt recoil, you have to use a much denser material, like tungsten, in order to increase the weight enough in the same size rod to notice a difference... But as you pointed out, the recoil on the CW9 isn't bad to begin with. I experimented by making Aluminum, Stainless, and Tungsten rods for my CW9.

I'm not aware that they ever did. :)

PMJ9 had the what some call the sharp edges on the slide release lever. To me it was just squared all the way around. Then they later on went to t alight taper on just the end towards the end of the lever. Not sur eif they did this to the MIM slide stops but the forged ones now show the slight taper. I never thought the slide stop lever was ever sharp. maybe a tad bigger than needed but again easily modified with a dremel if one desires, so I guess itis OK the way it is, U can make it smalle rto your specs but you can't make it bigger

Now for some fokking reason I hav elost the ability to post ay Smilies. What hav eu done to my compueter colonel???

Did you run into the same issues as OP? I consider the night sights to be one of the more "critical" upgrades that can be done to any pistol.

I've only read people having trouble on the install on multiple sites.

I'm hesitant to order because of this. Also, Kahrshop appears to be out of the set and only have the front available.

I'm too spoiled with sig nite sights.
