I have cc'd in the past with a j-frame sized Taurus 357. I really like the 357 but after watching Hickok45 videos with the pm9 and him saying that the trigger was like a really good Da revolver and how thin and high quality the kahr is I started jonesing.

I bought one and after taking it to the range and putting 100 rds of fmj and 15 Hornady Critical Duty through it I have to say I am in love. Sweet, sweet trigger. Perfect pocket gun in my eyes. I was even able to slingshot 3 or 4 magazine's with no problems, including the hollow points.

I am very happy.

One question. I have not been able to find gold dots in my area yet but will the pm9 feed these as well as it did the critical duty?

The Speer +P 124-grain Gold Dots Short Barrel version are what I carry in my PM9 and P9... and for my Wife's G19... when she gets around to using it. I like bonded bullets and the short barrel version is designed to work in the 3-4" barreled pistols... with lower flash and good penetration/expansion.

OH! Welcome to the forum! I forgot in my haste to answer your question... never had a problem with Gold Dots in any caliber. I use the GDSB whenever it's available.

I don't know if you need any of this, but here's my list of info and links... and a little opinion/helpful(sometimes) hints:

Welcome to the Kahrtalk forum supported by K a h r Arms.
Here are a few essential links and things to do BEFORE you take your new pistol to the range, and ESPECIALLY BEFORE taking it apart and trying to re-assemble it! The Kahr is a different design… 6-7 unique patents cover the Kahrs. I’m not trying to imply that you don’t know anything about guns, but many don’t know anything about the Kahrs and some of the things you can do to damage or cause malfunctions of your new, or new-to-you Kahr pistol.

First, if you don’t have a manual, yet, or one didn’t come with your pistol, you can view it and/or download the pdf file here:
http://www.kahr.com/PDF/kahrmanual.pdf

Please watch one of these videos FIRST! These videos can point out possible problem areas and emphasize correct procedures!

There are many links on fixing problems listed in several places… under the New Member or Kahr Tech sub-forums.

A very handy one is the Kahr Lubrication Diagram:
http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=14750
Many of your questions can be answered in these areas and you can learn how your Kahr works and not damage it with improper handling.

Another great resource for information on Kahrs... Archives of Magazine and Internet Reviews for Kahr pistols by industry experts. They test these pistols and report on their views and the ammo they tested in it. This is a good way to find ammo that might fit your needs along with accuracy and feeding in the pistol... usually from a rest with velocity and energy, as well as penetration and expansion sometimes... very informational.

Frequently asked questions: http://www.kahr.com/faq.asp?

One very important bit of advice: Hold the Kahr pistol firmly when firing OR CHAMBERING a round. These compact pistols need all of the force they can get from the slide to get a round into the chamber successfully. If you don't hold the pistol firmly, part of the needed momentum is transferred to MOVING THE PISTOL and the top round will DIVE and jam into the right side of the feed ramp. The weak hand, over hand rack method gives the best grip and a firm rack will give you the best chance at chambering a round.

Use the weak hand fingers over the slide(clear of the ejection port), thumb along the slide and pointing to the rear. Use the gun hand to simultaneously firmly push the gun as you give a vigorous rack with the weak hand and cleanly release the slide as it reaches the rear limit and is "snatched" from the weak hand. This approximates a real rack from firing and beats the slide release method WHEN executed properly. Much more strength can be exerted when this is done closer to the body.

Here's a video on that. The first part is what I'm talking about:

There are many helpful members here most of the time who might be able to help you, but as anywhere, there are many opinions and not all are correct. Be mindful of this before doing anything drastic to modify your pistol!

PS: I keep thinking of stuff to add and help new members... and am trying to cover most of the popular subjects. Yes, it's repetitious to many, but possibly not to all new members. This approach is easier than having to look up every tidbit for each new member or question that arises. :)

Thanks. I know the reputation of the gold dots but didn't know about the short barrel variety. I may have to use one of the online links to get it though.

Again thanks for the info.

I buy all of my ammo online and have been able to sell some at my garage sale today. I wasn't trying to get rid of any, but wanted to have a "draw" to the garage sale and offer some for the convenience of my customers.

It used to be easy to find good deals, but that's a lot harder and too time-consuming now! It's hard to find any ammo online... and if you do, it's 4-5 times what it was a few months ago!

I really like the gun but I do wonder why a gun at this price point and with such good machining on the slide has such bad finish on the inside of the frame. I know it will smooth out over rounds and time but you wouldn't think this would make it out of the shop. I know looking at s&w, glocks and owning 2 Springfields I am used to a better finish quality on the inside.

I'm probably being a little too picky.

As long as it works, I don't worry about the rough plastic bits... just keep the shavings trimmed to keep any buildup from interfering with the action. At some point after break in, the plastic should be "in tune" with the harder metal bits and everything hunky-dory.

I agree. Still love the gun and can't wait to shoot it more.

My father was in the AF at Williams AFB in the late 60s.

I think my wife was stationed there once, but not that long ago! She's 10 years younger than I, and retired in '96.

I've lost count but have many hundreds of rounds of Gold Dot 147gr through my PM9 with zero failures.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks, Mj'. My first 4 years were to "dodge the draft":D And I volunteered for 'Nam! The last 16 were by choice!
