Just picked up my new MK9 last week and took it to the range today.
Having owned an K9 Elite, K40 Elite, and a MK40 Elite, I thought it was a no brainier to snag this little guy. Unfortunately the range trip didnt pan out the way I had hoped.
50 rounds Independent resulted in numerous failures to eject, and failure to cycle the slide completely.
50 rounds Winchester 115gr JHP resulted in the same scenario.
All told I had 17 failures to eject which left me somewhat disheartened. I know all about the break in period since, as I mentioned, I own several Kahr pistols, however this seems to be quite excessive.

After returning home I did a full strip to clean her up and noticed this on the back strap when the grips were removed. It is not a crack, but rather a casting flaw. It is pretty deep and quite a disappointment compared to the craftsmanship of my other Kahrs.

In addition, I noticed on the front of the slide there are "rough" burrs at the lower point of the scalloped area. It is purely cosmetic but still a bummer considering what I paid for the gun.

Considering all my others are the Elite version, is the above flaws normal for the base MK model? The fit and finish is far below what I expected when ordering it, and unfortunately it was a special order that was non returnable.
Based on the pics above, and my experience at the range, does this thing warranty a trip back to the factory or is it par for the course on the non Elite models?
Many thanks in advance!

No those flaws don't seem normal. Maybe send your pics to Kahr and see what they say. As for the FTE: keep shooting it through the break in and try some different ammo. Just my humble advice. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the reply!
Contacted Jay at customer service and will be sending it in for them to examine.
I will update regarding the outcome once it is determined what action is taken.

That was the right thing to do. Kahr will make it right. You kind of threw me with this thread. We don't see too many issues with steel Kahrs. Good luck.

Sometimes, 115 gr. ammo is too weak to move that new stiff slide. I had 3 fte's with Blazer brass 115 gr. during my breakin period.............the first 150 rds. I fired were Fiocchi 115, and didn't have an issue. Blazer and WWB are a bit tame. I found that the Fiocchi had a bit more snap to it.

if the grips cover that area, I would say kahr will not replace the gun, as that would require the new registrtion etc, and that part would be on u. the burr on th front, more than likely they wll buff out. Ur shooting issues, if there is sumpin wrong they willfix it. Just my 21 cents on this..

Update:
The good folks at Kahr are replacing the frame and slide. The gentleman I spoke to in customer service said it will be a few weeks before they get in more frames, but I'm fine with that since I'll be receiving a virtually new gun.
It does have to ship to my dealer, who I have already spoken with. My cost, a couple bucks for the state police call in.
Thus far, Kahr has really stepped up to the plate and shown a willingness to please their customers. Once it arrives I will post again to let everyone know how the process ended.

Just picked up the MK9 and it is flawless.
The good folks at Kahr did a great job of working with me, and I can honestly say I couldn't be more pleased.
As mentioned, I have several Kahr pistols, and after experiencing their customer service, I can guarantee the stable will keep growing. It's hard to beat a company that makes a great gun AND has the customer service to back it up.
Well done Kahr!

I started dealing with Kahr in the 90's and have had my share of deficient guns from them, but they have always stepped up. Glad to hear your woes got sorted out. I carry my MK9 or Colt CCO daily!:amflag:

I have a same sort, but older issue,I just traded for a new to me Mk9 Duo Tone. Several, places on the slide seem to be a little rough .The slide does not seem to have been refinished.I am unable to post photos, due to post count. Rev.Ray has offered to post a couple of Pictures for me. Called Kahr customer service to ask about the orginal finish and about the rough spots,In short the Csr said he didn't know and it was a non issue because there was no warranty . Could not understand the attitude, just wanted to know if the rough looking but not feeling, areas were "normal " or not. Offered to send him copies of photos, but was told don't bother. Sign me Perplexed , thanks Karl btw this gun is a GCXXXX series box marked Special Duo Tone

Sorry Tony, they are not terribly kind to everyone. I suppose the rep could have taken a little more time with you, but not all reps are created equal! Post some pics, there is enough expertise here to help you out I think!

Big Tony,
Sorry to hear about your issues. The only thing I can think of is because you aren't the original owner of the gun.
Many people call me crazy, but that's the single biggest reason I always buy new. At any rate, I hope everything gets squared away for you because they are great guns.

Tony,

Time is limited commodity. The less time they spend on non-warranty issues the more time they have (or quicker service they can provide) for warranty problems. And warranty customers can be pretty demanding. I know it's not "nice" but it's real. Meanwhile, post those pictures. Kahrtalk members love to help out and some of us seem to have all the time in the world. ;)

one more. Sorry it took me so long to post these BT. I had to get home to my computer. Good luck. Some of these guys have good experience refinishing firearms. My experience is limited mostly to stainless...I love stainless!!!

Finally posted them BT. Sorry it took so long. I'm always a little leery cleaning a blackened slide like this. If it were stainless I'd recommend some aggressive cleaning and I bet it would look OK. That type of cleaning would wear the finish right off of this gun. Do I understand you that the gun is 15 years old? Seems like it wouldn't be a quality issue then. More how it was stored and cared for. You might be in for a bead blast and refinish. Birdsong was probably the original finish.

Good luck,

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with that slide other than age ( a problem my physician tells me LOL). The first pictures a scratches ... happens through use. The last one appears to be nothing more than aggressive or abrasive cleaning gone wrong.

Shoot it and love it .... or have it bead blasted back to stainless. A Lot of local shops with a good smith have a bead blast set up and it's not all THAT expensive. You can even buy home setups.
