I put some some new grip screws on my beat up Springfield Armory TRP and think they complete the change of it's look.
It will never be a Barbecue gun, but I like the change. Is there such a thing as a campfire gun?

I don't know pal, looks like it might make the cut for BBQ gun to me. If there wasn't a campfire gun category, there should be.

Do love those grips.

Grip screws do help a lot on some guns. Looks good.
I recently did the same on a couple of my Sigs.

I like the grips quite a bit myself. I must have been living right when I bid on them. The auction was for these and a set of G10 grips. Nobody else bid, so they were mine for under $110 shipped.

The bottom screws did sit a little proud on both sides. I think you can just see that in this auction photo (nice that he had them on a TRP):

I put slim bushings on the bottom and that fixed that!

Those are some good looking SIGs!:laser:

I've got a set of fancy, psychedelic screws on my SP-01. I was going to plate them with black nickel, but the more I looked at them, the more I thought they are kind of jewel like and I left them as is.

That's part of the fun, playing around with grips and stuff. I got a bunch of crap for swapping out the grips on my Legion. But hey we do it because we can :=]

Sometimes have to get creative with stag/horn/etc. Can't control the thickness like wood and stuff. I have a few with mismatched bushings too.
Only your grip installer knows for sure.

Wow, wow, wow, they sure are beauties!

SO the convict told me that a barbecue gun is a show gun......I always thought you shot holes through the meat to tenderize the meat before you grilled it!!!!!!!

Greg the convict wants me to tell you that it looks like you also "sliped" in a short trigger in that TRP!
Now you have renewed his desire for a TRP that has been simmering in the back of his future gun list!!!!

DARN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we were hoping to come your way this winter, but it won't happen. The convict's Mother (yes, I know it's hard to believe that he actually has a MOM
........she is very cool) is 94, and living on her own and we think we better stick close to home this year................OTHERWISE we would beg to see your collection and
SHOP!!!!!

Yup, I believe the convict is right (he has a mom?). Looks like a short trigger to me too. If memory serves Greg is partial to the short triggers.
At least in one mode, for carry or for target, don't remember which.

I too would love to see the collection, some cool stuff. Might call it an accumulation perhaps.

Convict has a mom huh? My mom tells people she found me under a rock and oft times wishes she'd put me back. Guess I should feel bad but I've lived with it all my life, kind of accustomed to it I reckon.

MB,
He has a good eye, I did swap in a short trigger. I can live with medium length triggers, but prefer the short.
It sure would have been nice to see you all this winter, but I agree about sticking close to home. Hopefully next year!
Please say hello to your badman for me.

Greg

The convicts Mom grew up on a potato farm (TRUE) and she found him under one of the potato plants.......................and she likes potatoes so she decided to keep him.
BUT, she found out that one rotten potato can spoil the whole crate!
Not true, he's a good guy, I'll keep him!

Yes, we were very disappointed that we won't be traveling this winter, but that's life. Lord willing, it will happen next year!
Keep your brass polished and your powder dry!
Say hi to the wife!!

I'm a little late to the party.....as a matter of fact I just got here! Anyway, I prefer the grip screws that are (or maybe were) sold by 10-8. The slot was cut so that they could be unscrewed by using the rim of a .45ACP case.

One of the demonstrations of John Browning's genius is that the 1911 pistol can be detail-stripped by using no "tools", other than the part that you've previously removed. Even, for example, the little lock screw on the magazine catch can be removed by using the little bent tab on the sear/trigger spring.

Torx or Allen-head grip screws sort of go against Saint John's principles!

Welcome to the party!
True, the 1911 can be mostly disassembled using other parts of the pistol, but there are parts that you would play hell getting off that way (sights, grip screw bushings, barrel link pin). So, I disagree that Torx or Allen head grip screws go against Saint John's principles, but rather that they fly in the face of the Gospel according to Hilton Yam.
I'm not knocking your choice of grip screws, but I've carried many other types of firearms afield that require tools to disassemble (or even tighten the grip screws) and have not been handicapped by that. I've also not been plagued by loose grip screws on my 1911s, so I've decided to go with what looks good to me. Bawanna might understand that.

BTW, the above doesn't mean I don't think slotted screws don't look good on a 1911. I just think they are a better look on some guns rather than on others.

I'd also like to thank you for bumping this thread up:)
Earlier, I posted a photo of a second set of grips that I got with the stag; well I finally got something I felt they belonged on at this weekend's gun show.

Guess you'll be swapping for a mid/short trigger, know your partial to those rather than the long.

Greg, would those screws work on an MK or K series? I like the black and they would look great with black G10 grips on my Kahrs.

Al,
I currently use "regular" 1911 screws that I cut to length for the "hard nylon/plastic OEM grips on my MK9. The screws for the slim bushings I used on my TRP have a slightly different head shape/thickness that makes them sit a little lower in the grip holes, but they work fine otherwise.

Most of the slim bushing screws I've used are shaped similar to that. Would be nice to find regular size 1911 screws with the head like that.
Person wouldn't have to cut the screw hole quite as deep for the head. More strength left in the wood.
