Bought the most expensive thing in my life, a new vehicle. Yes, I know depreciation and all that jazz.

Just thought I'd share.

Sweet ride! I purchased my silver 2006 Mustang GT new, and it is pushing 50,000 miles now. One thing that you will be happy to hear is that my car has been very reliable - I have not had any mechanical failures, and other than replacing the battery and tires, only needed regular maintenance. My car is fast and fun -- yours will be fun, but a lot faster.

Hey - question - are you sure it's a 2011?

The reason I ask is, as far as I know - the 2010's have th GT logo and the 4.6 but the 2011's have the 5.0 and the corresponding 5.0 fender badge?

I assume it did have a towing kit and trailer hitch included in the deal? And when are you going to mount the winch and new brush guard front bumper? Lift kit and mudders?

Oh, well... nice project vehicle:D

When you get a chance, post a picture of the actual car.I drive a pickup myself but I do admire a sporty ride like you`ve purchased. If I had one of them I probably wouldn`t have my iicense for very long though.I`d have to DRIVE IT!! I`ve seen some Mustangs around here that have neon lights around the bottom.Just a thought if you are thinking about accessorizing.

The first new car I bought myself was also a black Mustang GT :) 92' 5.0 coupe...great car and a blast to drive....but
That car was also the reason I've only owned trucks since....before the "Stang" I only had basic transport vehicles but once I was driving that car, EVERYONE wanted to race or show me how cool they were, no matter where I went someone was rev-ing up, peeling out or doing some stupid maneuver ...It really made me crazy and police seem to believe you are always speeding even when you are not  Bad weather was also a big no-no...
The car attracted way too much attention for my tastes and was practical for nothing, so it got sold for a Nissan 4x4 pick-up and it has been trucks ever since.

Whew, you scared me. I was afraid someone misled you on a sale. I was genuinely worried. :(

I really like the '11s, although I'm not really a fan of the '10's. I love the new 5.0, almost considered trading in my 2005, but I've got too much work into it. I figure for the money I'd lose in trade, I could buy a blower and be done w/ it.

Thats a beauty. I never owned a new car but sometimes people let me suck in some of the new car smell when they get em.
Sometimes I go out and sniff the new city trucks from time to time. Takes em a while to get all the stuff put in em. Tell em to keep the doors closed so the new car smell don't get out.

We got my wife a 2005 mustang convertible. I rode in it twice I think. I do get to wash it near every weekend when it ain't frozen outside.
I wanted a hard top but she insisted on a rag top.

Boy, that is just beautiful. Ihen I was a young stud I bought a 1970 Dodge Challenger. It had a 440 cubic inch, 390 HP (that was called the 440 six pack because it had 3, 2 barrel carburators) and a 4:10 rear end gear. With that gear, I red lined at about 80 MPH so I traded the 4:10 gear for a 3:54 gear which gave me a little higher top speed.

Your mustang is fabulous. Take care of it.

My drivers Ed car was a BRAND NEW 70 Dodge Charger with that same set up. 440 6 pack. Why they provided a car like that for drivers Ed I never could figure it out. We had a blast in that car though. My instructor was also my auto shop teacher. I already knew how to drive. We learned to drive hard and fast. I wanted that car soooooo bad. Way way out of reach for a high school kid. It was even candy apple red with black interior. My pulse goes up just thinking about it.

My kids all got little import cars with I think squirrels under the hood. I kind of felt bad for them. Not too bad though.

Bawanna, my Challenger was purple with a black interior. It cost $4,400. As great as the design and concept were, Chrysler Corporation's execution was just terrible. It was one of the worst cars I ever owned. It was so bad, I vowed to never buy another Chrysler product and thus far, 41 years later, I have kept to my vow.

Bawanna

Ironically my lifes credo despite my love for the Charger has been "Death Before Dodge". My wife insisted on a dodge convertible, can't recall the model. Biggest piece of junk I've ever owned. Bought it used, it leaked, junk all around.
I do like the looks of some of the new Chargers and a few other models but the chances of me owning one are not good.
If I ever get out of my F word van, I'll be back in a Chevy hopefully pretty new if not brand new and that will probably finish out my driving needs for this lifetime.

I always wanted a Mustang when I was growing up, but the seats were too low for me to be able to see out of the car. :(

The only American car company I'd buy from again is Ford. They didn't take the bail out and I loved my Ford Ranger.

Sad news - I was approved (and that has not changed) for the entire vehicle, and have the down payment, etc. But, after a night of no sleep at all, and re-running my numbers (removed all OT and slightly inflated the cost of living, while leaving in my savings and retirement options) - I would have $100 left at the end of the month to my name.

I'm not willing to be a slave to a car.

I do know though, that I will be buying one of these used, with low miles in a few years. Going to wait and build up a cash buffer and better establish myself at my job (hopefully in the maintenance department instead of production).

I'm looking instead at earlier GT's and V6's - much more reasonable on the wallet, still some fun, and that'll let me get a REALLY fun car quickly.

Sometimes, you need to just listen to that pit in your stomach.

Aw man, thats sad. But your doing the right thing. Don't slave to a car.

My wifes 05 is a V6 and I can tell you it still hauls the mail. More than enough for her. I can't imagine what 400 ponies under the hood would do.

Sorry you don't got your dream ride in the garage but wait for it. It'll happen one day. Cars are like houses now days, you gotta work your way up.

Doesn't seem to work for me but maybe theres still time.

That's too bad, but I think you made the right decision. Better to have some reserve cash than a cool car.
I have owned two Mustangs in my youth.Bought myself a 65 'stang when I graduated from H.S., then a few yrs later, while in the Navy in Ca., I bought a '66, with a beefed up 289, big 4bbl carb. That thing would haul the mail.
I've really liked the new ones like you were buying, the Cobra models, but it'll have to wait 'til I hit those elusive 6 numbers. :D

My Ot is a lot - my shortest week this year ( this week) has me at 56 hours - not counting the weekend (usually an extra 24-32 on top of that). But depending on OT to make things work is pretty foolish.

Jeep you did the right thing by backing out of that deal but you will have one in the near future...I always buy used and while that new smell is great, it ain't worth the extra bucks...From your picture you look to be a young man and those cars are a young mans cars...My son bought a gently used 2005 GTO with the LS1 motor, 6 speed manual trans with a hot tuned computer, headers and Magnaflow exaust...I drive a 02 Chevy Z71 pickup and love it to death...A few months ago in the winter he wanted to switch cars since my truck is 4x4 so he could go to the Georgia mountains to ski...Well we did and here is my thoughts about older guys getting muscle cars, you better be real limber...I about beat my head in trying to get in and out of the thing while contorting my body to get the d@mn seat belt on...Once strapped in it was great, you don't sit in these cars, you wear um...I am so over the manual shift thing too and much prefer an automatic but it was fun for a few days and that is the fastest car I have ever driven...Back in the day I had a 70 Chevelle SS 454 which was fast but that GTO is wicked, wicked fast and I had to be careful to keep it close to the speed limit.........The problem with the GTO is that they look like a Honda Civic which is kinda good so you can run under the radar but not so good for looking at, nothing like the mean looking stang's...It was great fun though to come in fast and hot to a stop light downshifting with that beach going Um DA Ba Blam Balm Da Blam Blam Boom Da Blam from the Magnaflows and reving it up while at the light and seeing people looking around to see where all the noise was coming from but not seeing anything...Well it was fun for a while but I sure was glad to get back in my old pickup which felt like sitting in a lazyboy compared to the Goat...Now if I could only figure out how to get the old truck to run like that beast....

Sounds like you made a responsible decision. I'll tell ya, I may not beat 'em at the dragstrip, but I have just as much fun w/ my 315 HP as the 5.0 owners do with their 415. If you find a nice lower mileage 05+ GT you can't go wrong.

Thank you.

It's quite fun to drive, even with the stock gears in it. It's not "HOLY $%^&*" fun, but it will more than do.

Especially since it puts out twice as much horsepower and three times as much torque as my previous ride (when it was new) - which happened to have a worn out engine, slipping clutch, shot suspension, bad rear brakes, rattles galore in the interior, and the exhaust broke on me earlier in the week. Oh - and the faster you go into a turn with the mustang, the more nimble the handling is.

Sometimes, you need to just listen to that pit in your stomach.

Welcome to the rationality of adulthood. I remember two pieces of advice that I got along my 47 year journey through life. 1) If Mamas not happy, then nobody is happy. (doesn't apply here). 2) You can have anything you want, you just can't have everything you want.

Sounds like number 2 visited you. Salesmen hate it, and call it "Buyers Remorse" to make you feel bad. I applaud your decision since how much could you really enjoy your new car if you were constantly worried about keeping up with the payments. You'll have your chance. Maybe not next month or even next year, but if you want it you will figure out how to make it happen and not break the bank.
