I was looking at a K9 or a MK9 at my local shop and the owner suggested that for grins I also look at a Sig P239. I realize I am asking for opinions from a biased crowd so please don't toast me. I posted in this section because I already own a CW9. As a reference this will not likely be a carry piece just a shooter. RJM:D

Of the two Kahrs, I would pick the K9 if it will not be CCW. The K series is just a great looking and feeling gun. I have a K9 (12 years) and a "new-to-me" 2006 model -- DLC PM9 with N/S. This will be my primary carry gun and when I get its little brother the P380N, I'll carry the smaller quite a bit as I wear shorts most of the year down here in NE Florida.
You might consider the K9 in the black slide DLC model -- either is beautiful, but I really like the DLC finish and wish my K9 had it, along with fresh N/S, though I'm thinking of getting the Crimson Trace Laser Grips for it.:D
My K9 weighs 29.6 ounces with 7+1 Federal 135gr HydrShoks and my PM9 weighs 19.6 ounces with 6+1. The P380 will weigh under 14 ounces with 6+1 90grain JHP's.
This is just my opinion, but the larger gun would seem to be a no-brainer for a target gun, if you aren't considering the T, TP, or P models.

Hey, Raoul. That's okay as long as you own and love at least one Kahr!

Are you shopping for a CCW smaller/lighter than your CW9?

If yes, then get the MK9.

If not, then get both, and just don't leave the shop without the Sig :D

That was close to blasphemy... or disloyalty... or something -- but only close!

Raoul, Which Sig do you own. The P239 was close in size to the K9 but seemed heavier. Also is the sig an all Stainless weapon or Aluminum frame.

Wyn, I was leaning K9 till I saw the MK9. Very solid little weapon. I'm in SC so I wear shorts quite often also. Sorta confused.

Yeah. Tell me about it. My wife is at work... I'm retired and sit here most of the day... shopping... way too much. She's 10 years younger(retired AF, as well) and I'm retired USAF already on Social Security, as well as 20% VA, deducted from my AF retirement pay, then CRSC covers half of that deduction -- the government giveth and taketh and giveth a little back, before taxing my USAF Retirement AND 85% of my SS. Thanks, President Clinton.

Anyhow, I thought you were after a "shooter", not a CCW pistol. That's what my opinion was about. For CCW the PM9 is great if you like polymer frames and lighter weight, or the MK9 if you like SS and don't mind the weight. In any case the DLC finish looks so great. I'm even thinking of a K40, possibly, in the future, DLC of course. Some of the pictures of personal weapons here are really like "gun porn", of the best kind, though. That would add another caliber, though -- one that I've never tried. My favorite caliber is .45ACP, at present in an SS S&W 645 with now-dead night sights. I like the DA/SA action, but that's a BIG, heavy gun... and I hope to add a PM4544N to my small, but growing arsenal, in the next few months.
Wynn:)

I changed my "treason" earlier to blasphemy.... Kahr site and all.

Wynn, First off please allow me to thank you for your sevice to our country. Glad you get to enjoy your retirement. Please extend my thanks to your wife also.

And yes you are correct I am looking for a shooter. But the size and feel of the MK got me thinking...which is always very bad. I like the Kahr's a lot but the Sig felt solid also. I don't have any experience with Sig, just always heard nice things about them. RJM

You can't go wrong with the Sig 239 if you're looking for a "shooter".
You didn't say what caliber, 40 S&W or 357 Sig, but whichever, you can buy the other barrel and have a choice.
A 9mm conversion barrel is also available.

I had the 9mm in my hand. Nobody mentioned barrel conversion at the Gun Shop. So I could have a 9 and a 40? By the way it was a Duo Tone Model.

OK I wasn't thinking the thing through, it's not possible to covert a 9mm into a .357Sig with a barrel swap. you can convert a .357Sig (or .40) into a 9mm w/ a conversion barrel , but not the other way around. Once a 9mm, always a 9mm.
Still an excellent gun to CCW or as a shooter.

Thanks for your kind words and thanks. I'm glad to help, but at the moment I can only offer my opinion on the Kahrs. I wish that I could afford one of every model that I fancy. "Shooter" means different things to different people. I don't really do "target-shooting" anymore. But I do practice with my weapons at the range, with emphasis on defensive shooting at targets. I used to really like shooting cans and such with large caliber pistols and watching them jump, but I can't do that at the indoor range I frequent nowadays. This forum has been an incentive to get into shooting more often and buying more guns. Plus, I get to learn stuff, offer advice, and often drool over members' gun pictures! :D
Good Luck on your choice. Versatility is a plus, too.

I have a P250C (http://www.sigsauer.com/products/ShowCatalogProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=54&productid=183) in 9. I seem to be fond of plastic guns. Nice shooter. DAO for a change. Modular setup with swappable frames, slides, and barrels.
What can I say. My first pistol was a VP70Z (http://www.remtek.com/arms/hk/civ/vp/vp70z.htm) back in the 70's.

First of all, I, too, thank you for your service to the country!

I wish you did not replace the "T" word with "blasphemy".. after all, the 't" word isn't any offensive or unpopular in today's sentiment considering how this country is being legislated and administrated today.

Back to RJM: shopping for a "shooter"? Then MK9 should be out... leaving you K and the P. get both.. coz you may need the P in case the K needs a quick trip to mothership.... LOL (Nah .. just playing here... )

I have a Sig P239 in .40 cal, and love it. It is an excellent shooter, but for me it's just a bit wider than I like to carry IWB all the time. I do carry it occassionally OWB, under a cover garment, but have found the CW9 is in the waist band more often.

Now, the question about barrel swaps in the P239......

IF you get the P239 in .40 or .357sig, either barrel will work. And, although Sig does NOT offer a 9mm barrel for the .40/.357 model, there are a couple of aftermarket barrel makers (Barsto for one) that DO offer 9mm barrels that may need professional fitting.

IF you get the P239 in 9mm version, that's what you get.... the .40 and .357 conversions will NOT fit.

The short, single stack grip of the P239 is really the only Sig I feel comfortable carrying concealed, but in some respects it dwarfs my CW9.

I don't have any experience with the K or T series of Kahrs...not yet anyway. The Sig P239 is an awesome gun. You can't go wrong if you decide to get it. They price out around the same as the Kahrs is not a little cheaper at times.

On the other hand. I've heard nothing but good things about the K and T series and if this is not for CC then I'd be tempted to try one out.

To makes things a little more confusing. If you truly want a range gun then I'd forget about both the Sig and Kahr and get a Browning Hi-Power.
