I think you hit the magic 30 and should be able to post pictures now.
Thanks!
Now that I can post pictures, I'll illustrate what shoddy design is.
Even with a flush-to-the-mag metal base plate put on, this P9 mag would have a very noticeable overhang and this (IMO) shows a poorly designed mag.
It's like Kahr gave no thought to the grip profile when they shopped out the manufacture of the magazines.
It's as if they (or whomever they farmed the mags out to) were told "Make the profile of the mag at the base however is convenient or cheapest, then make a cheap piece of plastic base to (sort of) make it flow with the bottom of the grip."
SO disappointing on a gun I otherwise like a lot.

Yup, I and a few others have never liked those awkward plastic mag bases.
I've personally never had an issue with it myself. I've been playing with a Sig 365 and it's kind of the same deal, kind of ugly on the back. But it has to be open to install the floor plate. They could have shaped the back of the grip down to kind of mold in behind the grip but then the desired compact gun would be less compact.
I agree it could be better but I'm not losing any sleep over it at least for now.
I looked up my post on metal base plates and adding O-rings to stop the pinch... mainly with the P-40!
This posting is over 10 years old and many of those base plates aren't available. The 9mm and .40 S&W mags use the same metal base plates.

The O-ring size that works is the 3/32" thick by 3/4" diameter.
As I did with the P40, I put an O-ring on the magazine with the metal base plate to stop pinching. I haven't fired the P9 with the metal one, but the 3/32" thick by 3/4" inner diameter O-ring fits and doesn't cause binding or loosening of the lockup of the magazine, so I'll go ahead with the O-ring without trying for a pinch:

I got the O-rings at Lowe's. The 1/8" thick ones caused magazine seating and function problems.
I made carry mags for my P9 and P40 and both have the 4" ported barrels by Kahr. I would get one for the P45 if Kahr made them... and I really would like a flush-fitting base plate for the .45! I never did find a non-Kahr .45 mag that would work with the P45 and lock the slide back reliably on the last round. I gave up testing and just carry the P40, though the 9mm is more in favor these days with improved ammo.
For convenience, I mainly carry my 2010 P380 with Critical Defense 90-gr ammo these days, unless walking in the woods on my wife's folks' property in SW CO where there are bears, coyotes, and mountain lions... really! The plus P stuff had gotten too hard to shoot accurately... and it hurt to shoot it.
My single-stack arsenal consists of just 4 Kahrs these days... easier to carry when wearing shorts, tees/polos, and clogs most of the year here in NE FL.

wyntrot: Clogs? I had to look that one up. “Don’t mess with that guy with the funny shoes. He’s always packin tha heat”! Lol!;)

Is there some functional problem with the "ugly" mags? And what exactly is getting pinched. I have tens of thousands of rounds through Kahrs, and the only problem I've encountered is a broken plastic base - which is why I replaced all with metal bases. I know I'm being repetitive here, but there is no functional downside of these mags that I'm aware of. I appreciate a pretty gun, but who goes around looking at people's mags on a CC pistol?
Well, I’ve been known to look at other men’s mags, but at least I don’t wear clogs!
I get where he’s coming from though. Even if it’s just for me, I like my stuff to look tight & right. Sometimes just for fondling, but sometimes to show off.
I did have a PM9 that pinched me. We all have different sized hands. The PM9 would pinch me when firing it, right at the area of the o ring solution in these discussions.
