    Default Decisions, decisions

I bought a PJ Holster because it looked like the thinnest possible holster available in the marketplace. I was carrying in a Silent Thunder on a daily basis. I now have two options. JFootin was correct. The PJ holster product is just a little thicker than the gun itself. It is light and combortable. I have the over the belt hook and it is extremely quick to put on and remove. It hooks fine over all my double thick gunbelts. It is a joy to wear. Will it put more wear on the gun's finish? Time will tell. I really do not worry a lot about that because my carry guns are all used for a purpose. Gun wear is a badge of honor. The only improvement I could offer this holster is some sort of a sight channel to protect the top of the front sight from wear. At PJ's price, the holster is an absolute steal.

Now, how to compare to my Silent Thunder. They are different in a number of ways. Without question the Silent Thunder is better designed. By that, I refer to the leather lining, the molded sight channel, thicker kydex, stronger belt clip, and most of all, the unmatched adjust ability and available options from Garrett. The Silent Thunder costs twice as much but you get twice as much.

In most cases I really do not see a huge difference when I am wearing one or the other. In tighter pants the PJ wins every time. If you ever think you will want to try appendix carry, or want to play with the holster cant or ride height, the ST will give you that option. In the real world I did it right. I started with the ST and knew what to ask for when I ordered from PJ.

In my world I see a need for owning both. I appreciate the differences and thank both makers for there ingenuity. I will be return customer to both makers.

Now, on to pocket carry? No. I had that issue solved already by James Dean on this forum who make the best leather pocket holster I have ever used.

i have been eying those pjhosters for a while now because i really want an iwb holster for my pm9. i like the hybrid crossbreed style holsters but dont think the pm9 is big enough to need the double hooks. maybe that pj would be perfect. looks like you did a slight cant?

I, too, almost bought the PJ holster, but ultimately decided to go with the garrett ST. I wasn't sure about it at first, but now I LOVE my ST!! Exceptional quality for sure.

I also have a remora #3 with the sweat shield, but thinking about sending that one back for one without...I can't get a good grip on the gun when drawing.

And I just ordered a MaxTuck holster from white hat holsters. Don't know why I need another holster, but they looked really good and can't wait to give that a try.

I considered the same type of holster you are. I came to the same conclusion. If you are carrying a light weight pistol there is absolutely no need at all for a double hook. I am now very well covered. If I feel the need to tuck my shirt the Silent Thunder will be worn. Otherwise the PJ is perfect. I know PJ does offer a tuckable model but with that comes a thicker holster. For $40 bucks or so you cannot go wrong with a PJ.
Yes I did specify a higher ride and a 15-20 degree cant. It is perfect for me. If I ever need changes in the cant all I have to do is heat and bend.

340pd thank you so much for the side by side review. I'm applying for my CHP and have been looking at both holsters for my CW9. Having never carried before I've been reading all I can and trying to predict which will work best for me. I'm trying to not end up with a box full of holsters but can already see I’ll probably end up with a few that best fit what I’m wearing for the day.

sweet. think im going to order one with same clip type and a slight cant but normal height. i would prefer minimal exposure above the waistline.
i am going to order hybrid style from rmpollard for my glock but again, think the pm9 is small enough for one clip.

I use a Kydex pocket holster for my PM9 and there is definite and noticeable frame wear from using the holster. The wear marks are on the bottom of the frame at the very end beneath the the muzzle. I do a lot of practice draws so I'm not surprised by what I see. A nitpick I have with Kydex holsters is the noise made during the draw.

I think you missed something. The PJ holster is rounded on the front side where the top of the slide goes, creating ample clearance to protect the front sight, not just at the muzzle end, but all the way to the mouth of the holster. There is no way to jam the front sight against any part of that holster when holstering or unholstering.
    Very interesting...

I agree, but it is a close fit. I just like the Silent Thunder arrangement a little better for sight protection. Both are great holsters. I used the Silent Thunder tucked for the first time. It was perfect. I am really glad I own them both.

Ive heard nothing but good things about the PJ holsters! really makes me want to get one but it would be my first holster for my first EDC cm9 so Im nervous to order some set up I wont like. Im thinking of going with a different holster that will give me multiple options to try first, then when i figure out which position and cant i like best, ill order the PJ.

Would something like this be a good idea for figuring all that out?
